It is with deep sadness that we share the news that one of our drivers, Paul Lack, passed away last night.
Paul was an exemplary tour driver who dedicated his life to the job. He was extremely well known and highly respected within the industry, having worked for a number of operators across the Northampton area, including Yorks Coaches of Northampton, SMS Travel, and Lawmans Coaches of Kettering. Before joining us here at Johnston Coaches where he became our longest-standing tour driver.
Paul was instrumental in kick-starting Johnston Coaches. He took control of our first major investment, K28 JCT – a Mercedes Tourismo, a coach that he was constantly cleaning, it always looked as if it had just left the showroom, as Paul kept such good care of it. This investment came at a crucial moment as we emerged from COVID. Following a telephone conversation between Steve and Paul, Steve took a calculated risk on that vehicle—very confident in Paul’s exceptional ability as a tour driver, having previously worked alongside him at SMS Travel.
Paul brought with him loyal clients he had built strong relationships with over many years, consistently delivering outstanding service to holidaymakers across the UK. His experience, reputation, and connections opened many doors for us, helping to bring in work that allowed the company to grow and lay the foundations for what Johnston Coaches has become today.
We thank Paul for his incredible contribution and unwavering commitment. He was more than just a tour driver—he was a friend. A true salt-of-the-earth gentleman, outstanding at his job, and deeply respected by fellow drivers, passengers, tour operators, and coach operators alike, many of which will have fond memories of him.
Rest in peace, Paul.
Our thoughts are with Paul’s wife Hazel and all of his family at this very difficult time.
