As we head into the final run-up to Christmas, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what has been an incredibly intense and demanding few weeks at UKI.
Over the past five weeks, we’ve been moving in excess of 1,000 pallets per day through our own warehouses across Lancashire, alongside a further 350 pallets per day flowing through our trusted third-party network of approved suppliers. All of this has culminated in the final weekend deliveries before Christmas — traditionally the most pressured point of the year for any logistics operation.
It’s hard to put into words the level of pressure the entire logistics industry is under right now. Tight schedules, unavoidable delays, and — more frustrating than ever — refusals at major supermarkets and retailers due to lack of space or vehicles arriving late despite prior notification to the relevant processing centres. These challenges are being felt across the sector, not just at UKI.
I know we’re far from alone in this. Every logistics provider, warehouse team, transport planner, subcontractor, and driver is feeling the same strain at this time of year. A genuine thank you to our partner hauliers, third-party warehouses, and approved suppliers who have gone the extra mile to keep freight moving when plans change at short notice. Special recognition must also go to the drivers, dealing daily with congestion, delays, and refusals with professionalism and patience.
The team at UKI have worked tirelessly over the last five weeks to meet our clients’ expectations. I’ve worked closely alongside both the warehouse and logistics teams throughout this period, and while no operation is ever perfect, I can honestly say the hardwork, resilience, and commitment within this business has never been stronger. I am immensely proud of what has been achieved.
This time of year is a reminder that logistics only truly works when the entire supply chain pulls together. To everyone across the industry pushing through the final stretch — fair play to you all. Stay safe.
