⚠️ Service Update Shrewsbury – Saturday 30 May ⚠️

Please be advised that delays to bus services in and out of Shrewsbury town centre are expected between approximately 11am and 1pm on Saturday 30 May due to a planned march taking place in the town.

The procession is expected to follow a route through the town centre before finishing at The Guildhall. Increased footfall and temporary disruption may affect journey times during this period.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience while services operate through the area.

Please allow extra time for your journey where possible

We’re excited to hear more about the government’s plans for free bus travel for children aged 5–15 throughout August, and what this could mean for our services over the summer 🚌☀️

For many children and families living in rural communities, local bus services are a vital way to access activities, facilities, town centres and spend time with friends during the school holidays. Affordable and accessible public transport can make a real difference for local communities, and we look forward to learning more about the scheme, including whether our services will be eligible to take part.

435 Service

This is our latest update regarding the traffic lights at Onibury that are impacting the 435 service, as received from National Highways:

“We have now received certification from our Safety, Engineering and Standards team for the repair work to the larger crack we found when work began in March. This is the final step meaning everything is now in place and manufacturing of the additional required materials will begin.

The manufacturer and contractor have worked hard to bring down the programme as much as possible. The manufacturing for the new cast iron beam repair is expected to take 8 weeks. The long lead in time for manufacturing is due to the unique nature of the bridge components, so there are no “off the shelf” parts to use meaning everything has to be made from scratch.

We expect the repair work itself to take 2 weeks. Work will be carried out within the existing traffic management, with some overnight closures at the end of the work to remove the traffic management. Two collisions have happened within the traffic management since the initial incident, resulting in minor damage on the running side of the bridge. We will use these closures to carry out these small repairs.

We now expect to be off the network in early August. We understand the frustration that this is significantly later than we originally expected to be complete by. We’ve faced multiple challenges and setbacks whilst planning this work but have, at all times, treated this as a priority.”

Minsterley Motors would like to thank all our drivers and customers for their continued patience and understanding throughout this long-running and disruptive situation. We appreciate how frustrating the delays have been and are grateful for your support.

Further to our previous statement regarding the 745 Monday and Friday Ludlow service, we would like to clarify some of the figures referenced in discussions with Shropshire Council.

The passenger figures supplied by Minsterley Motors for 2025 showed the service averaging approximately 17 passengers per day — not 6 passengers per day as has been suggested elsewhere.

The operating cost to Minsterley Motors was approximately £25 per passenger per day. We are therefore unclear where the significantly higher figures of £60+ per passenger quoted by Shropshire Council have originated from.

We have highlighted these discrepancies to Shropshire Council and requested clarification.

As previously stated, Minsterley Motors has continued operating the 745 service for as long as possible because we recognise how important it is to the rural communities it serves. Unfortunately, without ongoing financial support, the route remains financially unviable to operate.

We appreciate the continued support of our passengers and local communities.

The cost of a bus service per person per day is calculated by dividing the total cost of operating the bus service over a 24-hour period by the total number of passenger journeys made on that service in the same period. A passenger journey is defined as a single boarding, so one person making two trips counts as two passenger journeys, consistent with DfT calculation formulas. The average number of passengers per day is calculated by dividing the total number of passenger journeys over a given period by the number of operating days in that period
