Unacceptable Fuel Hikes at Texaco (Herries Road, Sheffield)

In just a few days, the price of diesel at the Texaco station on Herries Road has surged from £1.46 to £1.64, with more increases likely. This feels like blatant price gouging.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves recently warned that she "will not tolerate any company exploiting the current crisis to make excess profits at consumers’ expense" and has tasked the CMA to be vigilant.

While global tensions continue, I will be calling out companies that choose to exploit small businesses and local residents instead of supporting the community. We need to pull together, not be taken advantage of.

Expected Reopening Timeline
Late 2026: Initial reopening for limited cargo and freight flights, as well as general and business aviation.

Spring/Summer 2027: Current projections suggest that limited passenger activity could begin around this time.

Summer 2028: This is the target for the return of significant commercial passenger services.
Recent Developments (January 2026)
Funding Secured: A major £160 million funding package from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) was formally approved in late 2025. This is on top of earlier government and council commitments, totaling nearly £200 million for the project.

New Operator: The City of Doncaster Council has identified a strategic partner to manage the airport (FlyDoncaster), working alongside Munich Airport International to handle operations.

Airspace Challenges: There has been some recent political debate regarding the exact speed of the reopening. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is currently reviewing the reinstatement of the airport's airspace, with a final decision on those specific flight paths expected by May 2027.

What this means for you
While you may see planes returning to the sky over Finningley for freight or testing later this year, you likely won't be able to book a holiday flight from DSA until at least 2027 or 2028. Major airlines like TUI have expressed interest in returning once the infrastructure is ready.

**Travel Alert for our Customers for pick ups at Manchester Airport**

While we understand Manchester Airport is undergoing major works at T1 and T3, we feel it is important to warn our clients about significant disruption at the Terminal 2 West pick-up zone.

This morning saw total gridlock, with a 35-minute wait just to enter the zone. While some disruption is expected during renovations, the lack of traffic marshals or police to manage the flow was disappointing.

Manchester Airport prides itself on handling 32 million passengers a year, but managing ground transport is critical to that success. Without better organization, travelers may well start looking towards East Midlands Airport and Birmingham International Airport - BHX after some of the feedback I've had!

With Storm Goretti approaching, please be advised that airport transfers over the next few days may experience significant disruption, particularly on Trans-Pennine routes. While we will do our absolute best to ensure you reach your destination and return safely, we strongly recommend checking your flight status before beginning your journey.
