Intelligence led DVSA examiners in Staffordshire to target a heavy goods vehicle transporting plant machinery for a roadside check.

They discovered this defective wheel 😨

The condition of the wheel indicated this was not a recent failure and had been driven in this dangerous condition for a number of miles. Leaving plenty of time for the driver and operator to discover the issue and carry out the necessary repairs.

The vehicle was prevented from continuing its journey until the wheel had been replaced and other serious defects fixed ✔️

DVSA will continue to monitor the operator.

The vehicle operator and driver are fortunate this did not result in a wheel loss. We want to remind everyone of the importance of carrying out regular walkaround checks and having effective maintenance reporting processes in place.

They can be the difference between a safe journey and a serious incident.
