This week is Bumps week in Cambridge. The river is too narrow to race side by side, so the races are end to end. The object is to actually hit the boat in front and avoid been hit from behind. The races take place over 4 nights, 18 boats at a time. A total of 113 boats are taking part this year. That is over 1000 competitors. The outcome of this race, pictured, was the middle boat hit the front boat. The boat at the back went on the hit the next boat up the river which actually isn't in this shot. The following evening the boats swap starting positions if they have successfully bumped.

Our spring sown malting barley was shining, golden and resplendent in this mornings sunshine. It is about 3 weeks from harvest and will hopefully find its way into some fine beers, incredibly, in about 15 months time.
