The Historic Choice: Stirling Castle

Built in the 1860s to commemorate the life of Sir William Wallace the monument compliments the history of Stirling castle . With a museum housed over 4 floors you will learn of the life and trials of this Scottish noble man , a member of the lesser gentry , who fought and died in pursuit of an independent Scotland.

Some of the best perks of the job is traveling throughout Scotland, taking in the stunning scenery, and meeting fascinating people! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✨

We recently had the absolute pleasure of hosting a genealogy tour for a lovely couple. Her ancestors left Scotland way back in 1640, and she has tracked an incredible 15 generations of her lineage.

To help with her research, we took a day tour to the Scottish Borders, where her 17th-century ancestors had forged a rather fearsome reputation for "annoying" their English neighbours. And by "annoying," I mean a few folk were killed, a lot of cattle were rustled, and they even had an entire area named after them! Influential in the 1600s, to say the least. 😂🐮

We had a wonderful day dodging the Scottish rain, tracking down obscure historical spots (thank goodness for the all-wheel-drive Volvo SUV!), and capturing some great photos. 🚙📸

This morning we are at Rowallan Castle Golf Course. 4 clients from Kentucky have hit it lucky with the weather. A fantastic setting with a cup of tea and a couple or rolls whilst we wait. Tomorrow Jass is in Stirling and I am in Annandale. Cant beat a bit of variety. Watch this space for our new Agritourism tours

CathBarr Chauffeur Service - #1
We have used CathBarr Chauffeur Service twice from the port in Glasgow. Both were private tours with Barry. The experience & service was outstanding on both occasions. As a matter of fact, I would go as far as to say these have been our very best excursions out of many - both ship excursions & independent providers. There is no comparison between going on a big bus with so many other travelers & going on a tour like this. The cost is much more reasonable than might be expected & the value exceeds the few dollars extra you might spend. Our guide communicated with us well in advance & arrived to meet us just as promised. He was dressed as a true gentleman and his courtesy was kind and professional. The car was very clean & comfortable & he had all of the items one might need to enhance comfort including water, candy, and other snacks. He also had umbrellas & a cane if these things were needed. He pulled the car around, opened the car doors & extended a hand to help us get out as needed at every stop. We were able to customize our tour to be just as we wanted. With his assistance, we were able to adjust our schedule with regard to weather & traffic conditions on the spot. He was so good at this, we jokingly called him “the man with a plan”. His commentary was so informative & entertaining. It was a nice mix of stories and facts. His driving was safe and it was obvious he had planned ahead. Some of the sites we saw on this trip were Stirling Castle, the Kelpies, and the Falkirk Wheel. We also were able to stop at Tesco to buy some local toffees which he introduced us to (our idea)! On our prior trip last year, a small country church in the town of Luss and the Inveraray Country estate & gardens were standouts. We also saw Loch Lamond. On both trips, we stopped mid-day for a little lunch at cute local cafes. Perfect!!! I cannot imagine anyone being less than delighted with the CathBarr Chauffeur Services. Guaranteed the day will be a highlight of your trip. Guaranteed the day will become one of your fondest memories.

The Abbey from the 1100s , the Bruce family and Stewarts in the 15 and 16 hundreds and the largest thread manufacturers in the world, think Paisley Pattern,from the 18 and 19 Hundreds. Try a visit .
