A big thank you to the team at HIVED for welcoming Aaron Page during a recent visit.

Hive operates a 100% electric fleet of trucks and vans, demonstrating how businesses are embracing zero-emission technology in their day-to-day operations.

It was great to hear more about their journey and discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the transition to electric vehicles.

During a recent visit to MDS Distribution, one of the RHA’s longest-serving members, Rhys Williams CMILT saw first-hand the company’s latest investment in sustainable transport.

MDS has introduced a new 42-tonne electric Volvo tractor unit for farm milk collections across Pembrokeshire and West Wales, alongside new HGV EV charging infrastructure at its Llanfyrnach headquarters and Letterston depot, supported through the UK Government’s HGV EV Charging Grant Scheme.

A great example of a member investing in the future of road transport.

Delivering net zero is no longer simply about ambition, it's about implementation.

Operators across the supply chain are now looking for practical, commercially viable ways to reduce emissions while maintaining operational performance and competitiveness.

Join Chris Ashley as he discusses how net zero ambitions can be translated into meaningful action across road freight and the wider supply chain.
Drawing on real-world operator experiences and industry data, the session will explore the lessons being learned by fleets making the transition and the practical steps needed to accelerate progress.

As National Lorry Week concludes and UK Logistics Week begins, this discussion will focus on how the industry can move from ambition to action.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to thank everyone who has helped support the conversation around wellbeing across road transport this month.

Throughout May, we’ve highlighted the support available to members through the RHA Member Assistance Programme with PAM Wellbeing, the RHA Benevolent Fund, industry wellbeing partnerships and wider conversations around mental health, resilience and support.

We’ve also shared more about the upcoming RHA Wellbeing Charter — a long-term commitment focused on improving health, resilience and wellbeing across the HGV, coach and van sectors.

The pressures facing the people who keep the UK moving are real, which is why continuing these conversations — and making support visible and accessible — matters.
Thank you to everyone who engaged with the campaign, shared content, attended events and helped keep wellbeing on the agenda.

Almost 400 hauliers went out of business last year. So far this year, many well known firms have gone to the wall. The impact of recent rising fuel costs has been significant.

That's why we're calling on the Government to take further, immediate action on fuel costs, warning that rising prices are pushing many businesses to the brink and driving inflation throughout the wider economy.

The introduction of an immediate essential user rebate – similar to schemes elsewhere – would help haulage, coach and van operators substantially, and relieve inflationary pressures across the economy.

Quick round-up of what we’ve been up to this week 👇

Fuel & campaigning – Continued pushing for an Essential User Rebate and provided information on the HGV VED holiday announcement. We also kept fuel costs firmly on the agenda through ongoing engagement with policymakers, stakeholders and operators, alongside coverage in The Times, Daily Mail, Express, Motor Transport and major transport media.

Government & stakeholder engagement – Met Transport Select Committee Chair Ruth Cadbury MP at SFI Logistics to discuss recruitment, rising costs, EV infrastructure, border friction and the 90/180 rule. We also caught up with Stephen Flynn MP to discuss issues affecting operators across Scotland.

Industry visits – Great discussions with members including Bannister Transport, GXO Logistics, Inc. and Poundland on fleet electrification, operational efficiency, fuel costs and wider sector pressures.

Northern Ireland – RHA colleagues visited members including Surefreight Limited and Liam Connolly.

Abnormal loads – Held our latest Abnormal Loads Group meeting, continuing work with hauliers, trade bodies, police and the NPCC to improve service provision and reduce unnecessary cost and delays.

Events & speaking – Richard James Smith joined the ClearMinds ClearRoads Conference panel on driver wellbeing and road safety. We also hosted our AGM and Board meeting, welcoming James Bishop from Wrightbus , and announced Emma Thompson MSOE as a Future Forum 2026 speaker.

People & wellbeing – Caught up with Harling Kaye and Peter Mckenna, launched the latest Roadway - the podcast with Hannah Harper, and revisited our Next Gen mental health podcast with Clare Murphy and others as Mental Health Awareness Month draws to a close.

Media – Richard joined Dave King on Truck Radio for a Bank Holiday programme discussing the songs, stories and moments that shaped his career in transport and logistics.

Back next week 👍
