As a local business owner in Newark, my company is dramatically impacted by the questionable practices that deviate from our Hackney Carriage/private hire licensing laws. Particularly troubling is the rampant use of vehicles that are licensed by other authorities within our district. For instance, Wolverhampton Private Hire licensed vehicles operate in multiple districts under various dispatch platforms and company brands, stretching beyond their licensing regulations.
The crux of the problem is this: local regulations are in place to ensure a level playing field and uphold high service standards. The flaunting of these rules by outside licensed vehicles is undermining the integrity of our sector, impinging on our business and, potentially, affecting service quality. An analysis by the Local Government Association (LGA) reveals that over a quarter of licensed drivers in England work predominantly outside the area in which they're licensed, exacerbating the issue nationwide.
Our plea to the Newark & Sherwood District Council (NSDC) is clear: uphold and enforce our local licensing laws in their entirety. We ask that the NSDC takes immediate and decisive action to prevent the unregulated use of vehicles licensed by other authorities within our district. It is vital that these regulations, which are designed to protect us local operators and the service quality for our clients, are fully enforced.
Let's lend our voice to ensure that NSDC adheres to and enforces local licensing laws. Your signature has the power to stimulate change and restore fairness in our trade. Please, sign our petition.
