It's Day 3 of Volunteers' Week 2026 and today we're celebrating the connections that make every journey with Bridges Community Car Scheme so meaningful ✨

There's a special kind of magic in the relationship between a Volunteer Driver and Passenger - one built on kindness, trust, and the time spent together on the road.

We see first hand that for our passengers, seeing a friendly face and knowing someone is helping them stay independent creates a special bond. What often begins as a simple lift to an appointment or social group can grow into meaningful conversations, shared stories, and blossoming friendships.

At its heart, our Community Car Scheme is about more than transport - it's about human to human connection.

Here's to friendships, old and new, and to the conversations, kindness, and companionship that make every journey a little brighter.

Thank you to our wonderful driver Kathryn and lovely passenger Elaine for the beautiful photos! 😍

It's Day 2 of Volunteer's Week 2026 and today we're talking about how sometimes it’s the little things that really make the biggest difference.

Steve (pictured on the left) is one of our wonderful volunteer drivers, and whether it’s helping with shopping, lending a hand with a foldable wheelchair, or simply making sure someone can travel safely and comfortably, he always goes the extra mile. These small acts of kindness help people stay independent and connected to their community.

And then there’s Della (pictured on the right), who is always full of smiles. She knows how important it is to get out to local groups, activities and social events. For many people, these outings can brighten an entire week, and our volunteer drivers help make them possible.

Whether it’s a friendly chat in the car, a familiar face, or helping someone get where they want to be, every journey matters.

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who give their time, care and compassion to support others every day.

Thank you, Steve, Della, and all our amazing volunteers. 💙

As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week this week, we want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our incredible volunteer drivers who keep Bridges Community Car Scheme moving 💙

Volunteers’ Week is a UK wide celebration recognising the amazing contribution volunteers make in communities across the country. Since 1984, it has been a chance to shine a light on the kindness, generosity and dedication of people who give their time to help others.

Our volunteer drivers do so much more than just provide transport. They offer reassurance, conversation, independence and connection to people who might otherwise struggle to attend appointments, stay socially connected and remain independent in their own home.

Every mile driven and every hour given makes a real difference.

To all of our volunteers - thank you. Thank you for your giving your time, your compassion, your commitment, and the care you show every single day.

We simply couldn’t do it without you. 🚗✨

Did you know we offer FREE talks to local groups? Marianne, one of our volunteer co-ordinators is off to Rockfield W.I this evening to talk about the history and work of the Bridges Charity. She can also offer a talk about Dementia if that would be useful to know a little more? Just get in touch if you have a group that would be interested. Do you:
• Live in Raglan, Usk or the surrounding areas
• Have a car
• Have a little spare time
...You could be our next volunteer driver 😊

Bridges Community Car Scheme helps local residents stay connected, whether that’s getting to vital appointments, social wellbeing groups, meeting friends or simply getting out and about. We’re currently looking for more friendly volunteer drivers all over Monmouthshire but particularly in the Raglan and Usk area to support the local residents.

We really need your support, as our waiting lists are ever growing. Even giving a little of your time can make a big difference.

Volunteer driving is flexible and can be fitted around you:
• Expenses are paid
• No regular commitment required
• You choose when and where you drive
• Training provided
• Regular social events and meet ups for volunteers

If you’re interested in finding out more, we’d love to hear from you.

You can call us on 01600 228787 or email us at [email protected] to speak to a friendly member of the team.

Give the gift of a lift. Thank you 💛
