You may notice a bit of change to Bessie James this year. She caused a bit of a stir on a trial run at the quay today!

We are absolutely terrified of the rising fuel prices, so a last minute change of plans and some brilliant work from C Toms & Son boatyard, we now have sails!

This may result in a slight change in length of crossing time, and we are not sure where the life raft will go yet, but anything to try and keep these running costs down!! 🫣

🌿 Beautifully inconspicuous 🌿

We did a bit of "nerding" on the walk back from the ferry this afternoon.

You stroll past this costal plant without batting an eyelid probably... but did you know that "Alexanders"... was once a highly favoured herb, vegetable, salad AND medicine?!

Smyrnium Olusatrum is the nerdy name, with the Smyrnium possibly relating to the seeds smelling like Myrrh.

The tubers could be dug and eaten, the young leaves used in salads and the stalks and older leaves cooked.

Apparently the seeds are peppery and the plant tastes something between celery and parsley.

The most impressive attribute to this plant was its reputation for curing scurvy among Sailors 💚

What a gem eh 😊

*** ⚠️ this post is for information only and in no way encouraging the consumption of this, or any other wild plants ⚠️ *** fanks! 🤓

Gorgeous end to the day.

So chilly on the boatyard, but the jobs need doing!

Roughly 6 weeks to go 🤩🙌

Favourite part of the day ✨️

Next time you travel from Polruan to Fowey in the late afternoon, just take a few mins to appreciate how the the headlands slowly reveal the Gribben Daymark, in a seductive haze of lowering sun.

The fading colours between near and far, are without a doubt, a feast for the soul 😍 ... or is it just me?! 😆
