Well we hope that we can now move forward and start moving again after what has been a very long time, but I am concerned not only for ourselves but every coach company, hotel, tourist attraction and anyone else involved in the leisure and tourism sector.
We keep hearing " all these foreign countries need the British holidaymaker to book their foreign holiday to support us" - hang on a minute !!!
What about the UK holiday and leisure industries - don't we need help too !!!
I will be selfish at the moment and focus on the coach industry. Whilst some have been able to operate by undertaking school contracts (although this doesn't really pay all the bills ( most are done by bus companies anyway - who have had a number of financial support packages) we who concentrate our business on leisure and tourism have been unable to work since last March.
Whilst some have had support from local councils, most have relied on borrowing money by one means or another, the government help by the CBILS or Bounce Back loans are now due for repayment. What about the Restart Grants you might say, as this is designed to help businesses prepare for reopening. WELL:
Hospitality (up to £18k)
Leisure (up to £18k) (a few examples )
Sexual entertainment venues
Sh**ha bars, waterpipe
consumption venues
BUT
Restart Grant Policy 2021
For the purposes of this scheme, a leisure business can be defined as a business that provides opportunities, experiences, and facilities, in particular for culture, recreation, entertainment, celebratory events and days and nights out.
Coach and tour operators are excluded, as are all retail businesses

So there you go, NO MONEY AGAIN for our industry yet we operate to all of the above !!!

PLEASE SUPPORT US -stay in the UK, go on one of your local coach company holidays or day trip. If you want to travel to your football teams away game, your night out, trip to the theme park, your wedding transfers and yes - if you do go abroad your airport or dock transfers.
The UK leisure and Tourism desperately needs your help - please support us or you might find we're not there when you need US.

well we are now hoping that there is light at the end of the tunnel, but the new rules will affect our first tour.
We have contacted our hotel partners to move the date of the first tour, or a suitable alternative so we'll keep you posted.
All our other tours will run as advertised (Hopefully !!)

Don't forget, our vehicles are available for hire with our strict covid 19 guidelines.

This is what our business is facing !!!
We are classed as neither the hospitality or Leisure industries and although we have a small store and office for the business and our coach has not moved since MARCH 2020, this is the sort of reply we get when asking for help !!
Thank you for your application for a business support grant.
This particular grant is only for those businesses who have been instructed by the Government they must legally close their business premises due to the national restrictions put in place to manage coronavirus.
Although you have declared on your application that your premises are required to close for this period, looking at the regulations and Government guidance, there is nothing that we can see to suggest that this is the case.
In these circumstances, I am sorry to advise you that you are not eligible and we are unable to approve a grant payment.
We appreciate that leisure businesses and suppliers to the leisure sector have seen a very significant downturn in their trade since March and in some cases has not received the same level of support as some other sectors. Where a business is not eligible for a business support grant because they are not legally required to close their business premises, a new Discretionary Fund worth £500m nationally has been announced by Government in response to the National Lockdown.
At this time, we are awaiting further guidance on the scheme in particular, what if any priorities the Government will ask us to focus on in allocating the funds. We are also awaiting clarification as to what share of this fund New Forest District Council will receive.
How are we supposed to survive !!!!!!!!!

Dave and Jeanne😢🤬

For those who have asked about what I actually wrote to Sarah, here is a copy of my email:

Good morning

I noticed your request for information into the lack of funding for certain sectors, and write to you in respect of the coach travel industry.

I have copied a facebook posting that I did in August 2020 after the first lockdown which read:

Can I take a few minutes of your time to read and share this post
WE NEED YOUR HELP
The coach industry is hanging by a thread as many companies have had either NO help, or been reluctant to take out Loans due to the uncertainty of being able to repay them. We have repeatedly asked for assistance from the government which has been refused.
But I don't use coaches, I hear you say !! - please read on.
The Enviroment
Since 1991 the industry has been cleaning up its act, and the latest Euro 6 engines are cleaner than older cars. (Nox emissions 0.46 g/kwh, and 0.01 particulate matter)
A 50 seat coach will take over 25 cars off the road reducing pollution and delays.
Rail
We are there when your train breaks down, when engineering works take place or there is a strike.
Airlines
We are there when your flight gets diverted, repatriation of passengers and crew transfers.
Sport
We take national teams for Football, Cricket, Rugby, as well as national and non league teams for these sports
Tourism.
Incoming tourists from around the world with tours, hotel transfers and airport transfers, transfers off ships for days out or airports. Foreign students, places of interest (National Trust, London Landmarks) seaside towns and hotels.
You
Supporters for all the above sports, plus horseracing, motorsports, tennis (wimbledon). We take you to the airport or to meet your cruise ship, to ferryports and more. Nights out and stag and hen parties, private tours and daytrips.
Your Children
Home to school transport, swimming lesson transfers, school field trips and journeys to local and national places of interest.
brownie, guide, cub and scout camps.
This list could go on, but is only here to give you a guide to what we do.
There is over 40,000 jobs at direct risk, and a shortfall of over £6 billion to the countrys coffers if this industry goes.

Whilst there has been support for the buses, trains and airlines the coach industry, especially the tourist side of the businesses have been decimated.

We continued to have "don't travel unnecessarily ", and although there was support for the home to school side of the industry NO support has been given to us.

The main problem to this is that we are not classed under the Hospitality or Leisure industries, and as our main income stream is during the Summer CBILS has been nearly impossible to claim.

The finance companies have either been very slow, or unwilling to offer any form of payment holidays due to the value of the vehicles that have been financed, and the subsequent significant drop in value of these vehicles.
Furthermore, many of these these loans have been secured by Directors Guarantees which has left many operators risking losing their homes as well as their livelihoods.

There has been talk of offers of help in Northern Ireland and Scotland but the English government seem hell bent or reducing our industry to rubble.

Yours

David Osborn

What can I say.
After my post yesterday about the Mail on Sunday request for lack of Financial Support, this could be a quite rewarding.
I have this morning received an email from Sarah Bridge which reads:

"Thanks so much for getting in touch following my article on Sunday about businesses falling through the gaps of Government help - it certainly struck a chord as I've so far received dozens of emails on this subject. I will reply to your email personally as soon as I can but in the meantime I just wanted to say thanks for contacting me and hopefully we will be writing more on this subject soon as it's obviously an issue which has affected so many people.
Keep going folks - you never know !!!
Dave

Just a quick heads up all.
