For all truck drivers, the families and friends of truck drivers, or operators worried about the Calais refugee issues, please sign the petition to force the UK Government to take this problem seriously.

France is a safe country. It should not be permitted to wait in France for a chance to enter the UK clandestinely. If it were common knowledge that the UK would automatically deny such asylum claims, it would end the misery of those waiting in Calais and ensure they claim asylum in France.

There is just a week and a half now until the Professional Movers Association's first Conveyancing Committee meeting on Wednesday 20th January, and I am delighted to announce that so far attending are representatives from the Government Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (who are currently looking to improve the property purchase process), the National Association of Estate Agents, the Council of Licensed Conveyancers, the Conveyancing Quality Scheme department of the Law Society, the Professional Movers Association, My Home Move (the largest Conveyancing Law firm by volume), Pickfords (the largest remover in the UK), Really Moving (who work with every sector in the property industry), and various other representatives.

Streamlining the property transaction process so that it is less stressful and more organised, will positively affect millions of people every year, who both buy and sell property, and who are employed within stakeholding companies working behind the scenes to help people move home.

The only way to identify the issues and solve the problems is to connect up all the sectors, and start working together as a unified team. The Conveyancing Committee meetings are the start of that process, where influential people from each sector can come together and work to create real, lasting change.

As we progress forward, I'll keep you updated as much as possible. Having the Economic Advisor within the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills attend, as well as some of the other influential people from the various property sectors, is a major first step, and the Professional Movers Association are very excited to be heading up this major committee.

Catastrophic potential changes are being proposed by the Bank of England that will seriously affect customers moving home, and furniture removal companies who move them. These changes will mean that people using the services of a removal company will have huge extra charges, a simple 1 day move will turn into 2 days, removal staff will have to work late into the night, and potentially break employment law if HGV drivers drive over their legal driving hours.

I've made a petition – will you sign it?

My petition:

Do not extend the CHAPS banking system to allow mortgage transfers up until 6pm

The potential changes to the CHAPS banking system, allowing mortgage transfers to be carried out up until 6pm, will cause absolute mayhem for customers buying and selling property in the UK. And for removal companies who deliver their furniture that late in the day. Do not allow this to happen!

If mortgages are transferred up until 6pm, that means removal company staff will be delivering late into the evening to get finished. This will cause health and safety risks unloading in the dark, breaking the Working Time Directive employment law, and exceeding legal driving hours for HGV drivers, as well as creating stressed customers who are upset their goods are being delivered late, and many more problems. A simple 1 day move will turn into 2 days doubling the costs to customers overnight!

Late hand over of keys set to get EVEN later in 2016!!

So the powers that be, think the answer to the Exchange and Completion issues, is to allow the banks to transfer money even later on in the day. Yay!

Who on earth thought that was the solution?!?

The following blog post has been written by Matt Faizey of M&G Transport based in Solihull, West Midlands. http://moversandstorers.co.uk/2015/12/01/stupid-ill-considered-chaps-change-from-2016-which-will-affect-home-moves/

It will be interesting to see if we can tackle this issue head on. The Professional Movers Association's new Conveyancing Committee will be working on it over the next few months to lobby other property industry heads and influencers, especially Conveyancing Solicitors, so we can get some semblance of sanity and organisation into the property transaction process. Watch this space.....

The change that will be the tipping point for firms, staff and customers. Ignorance of the highest order.

So you may be wondering why I am soo passionate about sorting out the exchange and completion issues in the UK.

After all, don't removers make money out of it with key waivers and overtime? Plus of course they can charge the customer for waiting time, and get cancellation charges if it all falls through. And if it goes into another day or storage is needed, because the client doesn't get the keys on time, the removers make more money. Whoopee!

Right?

Well d'you know what? It's not all about the money!

Removers have hearts as well, and everyday our members have to listen to another client's story about how it has all gone wrong. The estate agent cocked up, but get's a big bonus for making it go through before the end of the month. The solicitor's not in, but everyone's waiting for keys. The buyer's pulled out. The chain's collapsed. Exchange and Completion is on the same day, I don't know if I'm moving today!!

Here's a blog post that is written by a very good friend of mine, Matt Faizey of M&G Transport based in Solihull, West Midlands. http://moversandstorers.co.uk/2015/09/19/notice-for-moving-why-its-a-lie-to-give-a-simple-straight-forward-answer/

The blog is about the number of people getting access to their new home on any one day. Have a read. It will open up your eyes to the truly, chaotic property conveyancing system that we have in the UK. If you can get your head around the numbers!

Solicitors must know the number too, right? After all, they are the ones looking after all the case loads in the first place........

(Unfortunately M&G aren't yet members of the Professional Movers Association, but I'm working on it ;) )

Matt Faizey shines a light on the truth of how much notice a remover needs and why there is no simple honest answer to the question. A blog post designed to
