We are pleased to share that Camberwell-based driver Rachael Ayegba is one of ten people shortlisted for this year's Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards in the transport and logistics category.

Rachael was previously a football goalkeeper and represented Nigeria at the 2007 Women's World Cup, as well as the 2006 and 2008 African Women's Championships. In 2013, she won a league title during an 11-year stint in Finland.

Rachael joined Go-Ahead London as an apprentice bus driver in 2021, having moved to the capital three years earlier and she has been based at our 108-year-old Camberwell Garage since, which is home to busy services such as Routes 12, 35, 40, 176, 188 and SL6.

Rachael said: "It is a great honour to make the final list and an accolade to the hard work undertaken every day by thousands of dedicated bus drivers."

The Awards take place on Thursday 5 October 2023 and we wish Rachael the best of luck.

We are proud to announce the roaring success of our Graduation Ceremony that we held last week!

130 of our talented drivers and engineers completed Go-Ahead London's award-winning apprenticeship programme, and we couldn't be more thrilled for them!

Our Managing Director, David Cutts, personally presented certificates to our amazing colleagues during this heartwarming event.

Last month, our parent company, The Go-Ahead Group, received a prestigious accolade from the UK Department of Education. They were named as one of the top five apprenticeship employers in the country, and we are thrilled to have played a significant role in earning that recognition!

For the second consecutive year, we are thrilled to announce that The Go-Ahead Group has been named England's top employer of transport apprenticeships in the prestigious 'Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers' list! ✨

We are incredibly proud of our apprenticeship program at Go-Ahead London and we're elated to have our efforts recognized once again. This year, we have moved up to the top 5 in the overall rankings!

We firmly believe that apprenticeships play a crucial role in shaping the future, of the next generation of skilled bus drivers and engineers. In London alone, over 600 apprentices have completed our bus driver programme so far.

We are delighted to share images from today's recruitment day at our award-winning Camberwell Academy. We welcome all applicants, but today's event was designed to highlight the job options available to women as we are committed to improving gender balance. As a result, potential new applicants heard from a number of inspirational females, including Caroline Welch, our Apprenticeship Manager.

Caroline's journey brings alive the opportunities open to women at Go-Ahead London. Caroline originally joined us in 2006 as a driver at Camberwell Garage and within a couple of years was a Driving Instructor, one of just three females at the time in a group of around 50 training professionals. From there, Caroline was promoted to Senior Driving Instructor in 2015 and her current position evolved as part of a company review into how we recruit and train our people during 2018. Further recognition of Caroline's incredible career came in 2021, when she collected the 'Industry Champion' accolade at the Everywoman in Transport awards.

David Cutts, Go-Ahead London's Managing Director, said: "Well done to all at The Academy for a motivational day. We have successfully increased the number of women working for us in recent years, but there is always more to do. I am greatly encouraged by the numbers who visited us today and I looking forward to welcoming more women into the Go-Ahead London family in due course."

Caroline Welch, Go-Ahead London's Apprenticeship Manager added: "It was heartening to host so many people with an interest in the company. Bus driving is a wonderful career and it is right we do all we can to make it a serious employment proposition for women. Today allowed established female colleagues to explain what goes into serving our communities and I am confident more women will join us because of this initiative."
