We would like to wish all of our customers and suppliers a happy New Year and hope that 2025 is a happy and prosperous one for you all.

After the very sad loss of our founder, MD and father, Bill Drinkwater in June 2024, we must thank everyone for their kind messages of support and love throughout the rest of the year. Bill was loved and respected across the Commercial Vehicle industry, and his influence will long be felt.

So 2025 will be a fabulous year for SvTech Ltd as we continue to help motorhome users, horsebox owners, minibus converters, van drivers and WAV owners with their payload issues. Our job is to ensure your safety and legality.

Have the Motorhome rules changed?

We've been receiving a number of calls asking whether the rules on re-rating motorhomes and driving licencing has/is changing. This follows a podcast and a few forum 'speculations'

The answer is No.
This is not true and unfortunatley quite a bit of mis-information spreading and evolving.
Vehicle rerating is the same today as it was yesterday and the months before that. There are no plans to change this

There has been no new change to licencing and for post 1997 cat B1 drivers, this still remains at 3500kg for motorhomes unless you take your HGV test.

Although legislation is due to change for B1 licence holders to allow for an EVs only (not AF or ICE vehicles) up to 4250kg (5000kg for minibus), this has yet to receive parlimentary stamping, to bring in to force.
This is a year overdue being passed, so nothing happens quickly!

The DfT consultation on providing all B1 holders the opportunity to have C1 without a test was not passed and this remains shelved until further notice. See DfT website for further information.

SvTech continue to be the market leaders in vehicle rerating on all vehicle types and are recognised by the DVLA and DVSA for our work.
