During we want to showcase the great work being done to shape the future of road transport, from recruiting new talent and helping them develop in their careers.

EDG customer services apprentice Shahil Duranni passed his customer service practitioner level 2 with Distinction. “We are extremely proud of Shahil, who started his employment with us on 6th April 2021." - Elena Laird, EDG, Office Administration Manager.

We asked him all about it...read below⬇

🟡What was your initial experience when you joined the transport industry?

When I was first introduced to the transport industry, I started as a UK clerk working for EDG Group, arranging collections and deliveries and assisting customers on TPN. At the start, I found it challenging, as it was all new to me, but my mentor guided me through the industry and taught me new skills that motivated me to improve.
My language skills opened new doors within the company, and I moved to the international side, assisting companies in shipping goods globally.

🔵Why did you choose to study as a customer service practitioner?

I chose to study customer service because I love to interact with people, and, at the same time, gaining academic qualifications would open new doors for my future. One of the things I enjoy the most is speaking to people in foreign countries, as it allows me to problem-solve using my other language skills.

🟡Why do you believe this to be worth the investment for your future within the industry?

I believe it's worth my investment, as I enjoy encountering new people in the UK and globally, learning new laws on shipping, and every day brings new challenges.
I am to reach high by extending my knowledge which hopefully one day will let me run my own international shipping company and maybe one day win an award for being the best at what I do.

This week is National Apprenticeship week, and we are proud to introduce our company apprentice Megan Dixey. Megan joined our TPN depot in September 2020 as an Apprentice customer services advisor. Since joining Megan has learnt new skills such as answering phone calls, dealing with customer queries, booking in pallets and scanning paperwork. Megan is doing a fantastic job and we are proud to have her as part of the EDG team.

Megan Dixey - "During my apprenticeship so far at EDG group I have acquired so many different skills working here and have also gained personal qualities. I am more confident, and I enjoy taking on new jobs in the depot. It has been so lovely working here and I have never felt more welcomed before, the support I have received has made this an amazing experience for myself as I had always wanted to get straight into the working environment and gaining my qualifications. I hope to pass my course and continue my employment here at EDG.

With special thanks to our dedicated international manager…

Stephen Hunt has provided our customers (and fellow TPN depots) invaluable advice and reassurance to enable them to produce the correct documentation post EU exit. This has ensured that they are able to continue to ship and import with minimum disruption.

An example of Steve’s dedication to one of our customers, Mainline Baits:

He was able to facilitate the import of goods that had been refused entry to the UK by providing and liaising with the foreign exporter to produce the correct documentation to allow the goods to transit smoothly through EU and UK customs.

“I cannot recommend Steve enough - he has gone above and beyond to get my Brexit affected goods across the line. I have used many freight companies over the years but never experienced such good customer service” – Kevin, Mainline Baits.

Steve’s friendly and good-humoured advice puts our customers at ease and allows them to feel like they can contact us at EDG on any issue – big or small. No matter the size of the customer, Steve is always accessible to help them with any queries.
