Worried about a loved one’s confidence on the road?

It’s a conversation many families find difficult - noticing small changes in confidence behind the wheel.

✔ One-to-one, in-car coaching
✔ Delivered at the driver’s pace
✔ Focused on confidence, not testing
✔ Practical guidance for real-world driving

Designed to support independence, while giving reassurance to both drivers and their families.

Each month, we share insights from Driving for Better Business to highlight key topics affecting fleet safety.

This month’s focus: Mental Health & Driving for Work. Driving is one of the most dangerous activities most people do - and for professional drivers, it’s part of the job every day.

But safety isn’t just about vehicles and compliance. Mental health plays a huge role in how safely someone drives.

Stress, fatigue, anxiety and isolation can all impact:
- Decision-making
- Reaction times
- Overall driver behaviour

For fleet operators, this goes beyond wellbeing - it’s part of your duty of care.

Simple steps can make a real difference:
✔ Regular check-ins with drivers
✔ Encouraging open conversations
✔ Promoting rest, hydration and self-care
✔ Creating a supportive team culture

At BLT Driver Training, we see every day how driver wellbeing links directly to safer driving outcomes.

How confident are you that your drivers are fit to drive - mentally as well as physically? Read the full article here: https://www.drivingforbetterbusiness.com/articles/mental-health-and-wellbeing-supporting-your-drivers/

From notifications and navigation to busy schedules and time pressure - distractions are one of the biggest risks drivers face every day.

It’s not always obvious, but even small lapses in attention can have serious consequences.

That’s why professional driver training focuses on more than just vehicle control. It helps drivers to:
✔ Recognise and reduce distractions
✔ Improve focus and awareness
✔ Make safer decisions under pressure
✔ Build consistent, professional driving habits

For fleet drivers, taxi and private hire drivers, and the businesses and operators who support them - maintaining high standards on the road starts with awareness.

Because safe driving isn’t just about skill - it’s about attention.

As UN Global Road Safety Week comes to a close - the message remains the same: safer roads start with all of us.

Throughout this week, the global focus has been on one shared goal - reducing road traffic deaths and injuries, which remain a leading cause of harm worldwide.

From driver behaviour to infrastructure and policy, improving road safety requires action at every level.

But many of the risks we see on the road come down to everyday behaviours:
• Not looking properly
• Misjudging speed or distance
• Distraction or fatigue
• Split-second decisions that carry real consequences

At BLT Driver Training, we work with drivers and organisations to address these risks through practical, real-world training that builds awareness, confidence, and safer habits behind the wheel.

Because road safety isn’t just a campaign - it’s a responsibility we carry every day.

As the week ends, it’s a reminder to stay aware, look out for others, and make safer choices on every journey.

As part of our monthly support of Driving for Better Business, we’re sharing this month’s key topic: Mental Health & Driving for Work.

Professional drivers face increasing pressures - from long hours and isolation to tight schedules and road stress. These factors don’t just affect wellbeing; they directly impact driver safety.

For those managing drivers, it’s important to recognise that:
- Mental health affects performance behind the wheel
- Wellbeing is part of your legal duty of care
- Supported drivers are safer, more compliant drivers

At BLT Driver Training, we’re proud to support safer fleets by focusing on both driver skill and driver wellbeing.

Creating a culture of regular check-ins, open conversations and proper rest isn’t optional - it’s essential. Watch this month’s video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlrXCX8otc4

Road safety isn’t just a local issue - it’s a global one. This week marks UN Global Road Safety Week - a global campaign highlighting the importance of safer roads for everyone.

Each year, road traffic collisions claim around 1.3 million lives worldwide, with millions more seriously injured. Behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a community affected.

While these figures are global, the responsibility is shared at every level - including how we drive every day.

At BLT Driver Training, we focus on the part we can influence:
✔ Driver awareness and behaviour
✔ Safer decision-making under pressure
✔ Reducing risk on the road
✔ Supporting professional driving standards

Because safer roads don’t just happen - they’re created through better awareness, training, and responsibility.

This week marks Mental Health Awareness Week - a reminder that wellbeing doesn’t stop when someone gets behind the wheel.

For many businesses, driving is one of the highest-risk activities their team undertakes. Yet one of the biggest risks is often overlooked: the driver’s mental health.

Stress, fatigue, anxiety, and isolation can all impact concentration, judgement, and reaction times - often without obvious signs.

For vocational drivers, the reality can be very different to perception. Long hours, pressure, and time spent alone on the road can take a real toll.

So as a manager, employer, or colleague - ask yourself:
- How confident are you that your drivers are mentally fit to drive?
- When did you last check in - not just on the job, but on the person?

Because looking after your drivers isn’t just good practice - it’s a responsibility.

At BLT Driver Training, we support organisations to build safer driving cultures where wellbeing, awareness, and responsibility go hand in hand.

This week, take the time to ask - because driver wellbeing is part of your duty of care.
