Passing the test is only the beginning.

Most drivers pass their driving test once. After that, many will not receive further formal training for years.

For younger drivers entering the workplace, this can create a gap between being legally allowed to drive and being fully prepared for the demands of work-related driving.

Busy roads, unfamiliar areas, company vehicles, vans, tight schedules and customer-facing roles can all add pressure.

BLT Driver Training helps businesses close that gap with professional driver assessments and tailored training for employees who drive for work.

Because safe driving at work starts with the right support.

Clean Air Day, taking place on 18th June, is a reminder that how we drive matters.

For businesses operating electric vehicles, switching to EVs is only part of the journey. Drivers also need the knowledge and confidence to get the best from them safely and efficiently.

BLT Driver Training’s Electric Vehicle Training helps drivers understand the differences between EVs and petrol or diesel vehicles, including vehicle handling, charging, range, braking, journey planning and efficient driving.

For fleets, effective EV training can support safer driving, better vehicle confidence and more efficient use of electric vehicles across the organisation.

This Clean Air Day, it is a good time to think about whether your drivers are fully prepared for the transition to electric.

Serious road injuries are rising across Britain.

New provisional figures from the Department for Transport show that while road deaths fell slightly in 2025, the number of people killed or seriously injured increased by 4%.

For businesses, organisations and individuals, this is a clear reminder that road safety cannot be left to chance.

Professional driver training helps improve awareness, address risk, strengthen driving standards and support safer decision-making behind the wheel.

At BLT Driver Training, our DVSA ADI Fleet Accredited Trainers provide professional driver development and assessments for businesses, organisations and individuals across the UK.

In our latest blog, we look at why rising serious injury figures matter, and why driver training remains an important step towards safer roads.

This week marks Bike Week, taking place from 9-15 June, a timely reminder that professional drivers share the road with vulnerable road users every day🚴‍♂️

For fleet drivers and employees driving for work, cyclists can be part of almost every journey, especially in towns, cities, residential areas and around junctions.

Safe professional driving means more than getting from A to B. It means strong observation, patience, hazard awareness and giving cyclists the time and space they need.

For businesses, supporting drivers with the right training can help reduce risk, strengthen duty of care and improve confidence in busy, real-world driving conditions.

BLT Driver Training provides professional driver training and assessments to help organisations support safer, more aware driving.

Supporting professional taxi and private hire standards this National Licensing Week

This week is National Licensing Week, highlighting the important role licensing plays in protecting people, supporting professional standards and keeping communities safe.

Today’s focus on business and licensing is especially relevant for taxi and private hire drivers, where licensing helps ensure safety, compliance and high standards of passenger care.

At BLT Driver Training, we provide nationally recognised assessments and training for taxi and private hire drivers across the UK - supporting those applying for their first licence, renewing an existing one, or meeting specific council requirements.

From practical taxi and wheelchair assessments to safeguarding, disability awareness and driver proficiency training, we work with licensing authorities, operators and individual drivers to support professionalism on the road.

Licensing matters. Professional standards matter. Passenger safety matters.

Watching the World Cup? Plan how you’re getting home before kick-off⚽

As part of THINK!’s Drink a little, risk a lot campaign, we’re helping to share an important reminder: even one or two drinks can affect your judgement, reaction times and ability to drive safely.

In 2022, an estimated 1,920 people were killed or seriously injured in collisions where drink driving was a factor.

Big matches often mean social plans, drinks with friends and last-minute decisions. But you do not need to feel “drunk” to be unsafe to drive, or to put your licence at risk.

Losing your licence can affect your freedom, your job, your social life and your future.

If you’re heading out to watch the football, plan ahead:
✅ Choose a designated driver
✅ Use public transport or book a taxi
✅ Stay overnight if needed
✅ Choose 0% if you’re driving

Enjoy the match. Don’t risk the drive home.

This month, we’re highlighting Driving for Better Business’ June Fleet Focus: Psychological Safety.

Fleet safety isn’t just about vehicle checks, road conditions, compliance or maintenance. It’s also about whether drivers feel safe and confident enough to speak up.

Psychological safety helps create a culture where drivers can raise concerns, admit mistakes, ask questions and share ideas without fear of blame. Often, serious incidents begin as small issues that someone noticed but didn’t feel able to report.

It encourages organisations to review how they support drivers, from having clear driving-for-work policies in place to ensuring managers, supervisors and drivers understand their role in creating a safer, more open culture.

That’s why our pricing stays consistent - whether your driving assessment takes place on a weekday or over the weekend.

We know flexibility matters, especially for busy drivers and operators. Booking a weekend assessment shouldn’t come with an added cost. Our approach ensures you can choose a time that works best for you, without worrying about price differences.

Recent industry data shows UK new car registrations have reached a seven-year high, with electric vehicles making up over half of new registrations.

The shift to EV is clearly underway - but for many drivers and businesses, the transition isn’t always straightforward.

Driving an electric vehicle requires a different approach. From managing range and energy use to understanding new vehicle behaviours, drivers need the right knowledge to get the most from their vehicle.

At BLT Driver Training, our EV training course is designed to support that transition - particularly for new EV owners and fleets adapting to change.

We help drivers to:
✔ Understand how EVs perform differently on the road
✔ Drive more efficiently to maximise range
✔ Build confidence with new technology
✔ Adapt safely to evolving vehicle standards

As the market continues to shift, making sure your drivers are prepared is key.

Worried about a loved one’s confidence on the road?

It’s a conversation many families find difficult - noticing small changes in confidence behind the wheel.

For many drivers, their test was taken years - sometimes decades - ago. Since then, roads, vehicle technology, and the Highway Code have all evolved significantly.

Our Mature Drivers Confidence Builder Course helps bridge that gap - offering practical, up-to-date support in a calm, non-judgemental environment.

✔ One-to-one, in-car coaching
✔ Delivered at the driver’s pace
✔ Focused on confidence, not testing
✔ Practical guidance for real-world driving

Designed to support independence, while giving reassurance to both drivers and their families.
