⚠️ QC checks shouldn’t just be a tick-box exercise.

Done properly, they help identify:
🔹 Small issues before they become bigger problems
🔹 Inconsistencies in testing
🔹 Gaps in process or understanding
🔹 Areas where additional support may be needed

Ultimately, they help protect standards, compliance and confidence.

We’ve pulled together a new blog looking at why regular QC checks are so important and how to make sure they’re actually effective.

👉 Read it here: https://pro-techacademy.co.uk/why-regular-qc-checks-are-essential-and-how-to-get-them-right/

Because good QC isn’t about catching people out…
👉 It’s about creating better, more consistent standards across the workshop.

If you run an MOT site or you’re an MOT Tester yourself, Quality Control (QC) checks are something you’ll hear mentioned regularly. But in practice, QC is one of the areas we see misunderstood, overlooked, or incorrectly applied far too often.

🚗 In the News...
The UK automotive industry is facing a growing skills shortage and it’s starting to impact everything from repair times to customer confidence.

A recent report highlighted by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) warns that the accident repair sector is losing around 4,700 skilled workers every year, while only around 3,000 new entrants are joining the industry.

As vehicles become more advanced, particularly with EV technology and ADAS systems, the demand for highly skilled technicians is only increasing.

This isn’t just a recruitment challenge.

It’s a training, retention and future-readiness challenge for the entire industry.

At Pro-Tech we’re continuing to see workshops and businesses investing in practical, hands-on development to help future-proof their teams and keep pace with evolving technology ⚡

Because keeping the automotive industry moving doesn’t just rely on the vehicles…
It relies on having skilled people behind them.

🔎 In the Spotlight: Level 1 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Awareness

As more electric and hybrid vehicles enter workshops,
basic EV awareness is becoming essential across the whole business - not just for technicians.

Here are some of the key challenges we’re seeing and how this course provides the solution:
⚠️ “We’re seeing more EVs, but our team lacks confidence around safety”
👉 This course introduces the essential safety systems and components found in electric and hybrid vehicles, helping staff understand the risks and precautions involved.

⚠️ “We need staff to understand the dangers of high-voltage systems”
👉 Covers safety features and potential hazards, building awareness of the risks associated with working around EVs.

⚠️ “We want everyone in the business to have a basic understanding of EVs”
👉 Suitable for both technical and non-technical staff, making it ideal for workshops, front-of-house teams and managers alike.

⚠️ “We’re unsure about legal responsibilities when working around EVs”
👉 Training includes legal responsibilities and environmental considerations, helping businesses understand their duty of care.

⚠️ “We need a simple introduction without taking the team out for days”
👉 A focused ½-day course in Burton on Trent, designed to provide practical awareness in a manageable format.

As EV adoption continues to grow, having a team that understands the basics of electric and hybrid vehicle safety is increasingly important.

This course provides the foundation needed to improve awareness, confidence and safety across the workplace.

📰 In the news…

New MOT changes for electric vans are coming into force from June and they could have a big impact on workshops and fleet operators across the UK.

Under the new rules, electric vans weighing between 3.5 and 4.25 tonnes will move from heavy vehicle testing requirements into Class 7 MOT testing for the first time.

The changes are designed to:
⚡ Simplify testing requirements
⚡ Reduce operational costs
⚡ Improve flexibility for operators
⚡ Support wider EV adoption across commercial fleets

As vehicle technology and legislation continue to evolve, it’s another reminder of how important it is for the industry to stay informed, trained and prepared.

A really interesting development for anyone involved in MOT testing, commercial vehicles or EV servicing 👇

⚠️ Common MOT testing mistakes…

Most mistakes don’t happen because someone “can’t do the job”.

They happen because of:
🔹 Missed details
🔹 Process slips
🔹 Pressure and time constraints
🔹 Misunderstanding updated criteria

And often, the person doesn’t even realise they’re making them.

We’ve pulled together a new blog covering some of the most common mistakes we see and the practical steps that can help avoid them.

👉 Read it here: https://pro-techacademy.co.uk/common-mot-testing-mistakes-and-how-to-avoid-them/

Because MOT testing isn’t just about knowledge…

👉 It’s about getting the details right, every single time.
