Rider 30 and Metro 50

Rider 30 and Metro 50 Sunday 6th April 2014. Central Bradford (various locations).

Join us to celebrate 40 years of Metro (the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive) and remember the green and cream buses of the 1970s and 1980s. This event is being organised by all the main bus preservation organisations in West Yorkshire, led by Keighley Bus Museum Trust Ltd with assistance from the Aire Valley Transport Group, the West Riding Omnibus Museum Trust, and Transport Yorkshir

e Preservation Group. Together, all these organisations (and their members) care for over thirty vintage buses that formerly ran with West Yorkshire PTE (and the constituents Leeds City Transport, Bradford City Transport, Calderdale JOC, and Huddersfield Corporation) as well as the local NBC companies.

We learn today of the passing of Mr Iain Bonner, the lead organiser of April 2014's Metro 40 event in Bradford. Iain was 50 years old.

He was an inspirational person to work with, and knew exactly how to get the best out of a diverse team.

Should there be a Metro 50 event in April 2024, it will be the poorer without Iain. RIP to a good man.

Event for next weekend

We shall be providing a shuttle bus to Motors For Max next weekend (28th/29th July) from Wetherby bus station and Cattal rail station to the event site.

This promises to be a great family day out.

We will set the bus schedule over the next few days and share it next week.

Pleased to say that two of our drivers have volunteered their time at no cost to the event or the charity it supports, and we as a business will similarly be providing the shuttle bus and fuel for free.

We gather there will be a range of trucks and cars to look at, as well as live music, food and drink, etc etc.

(if anyone can't read the picture below, the destination screens of both buses read "Motors for Max" although these screens are hard to photograph due to the flicker rate)

Will you be in Morley on Sunday? Make sure you get plenty of photos of the old Black Prince buses on the cobbles before major road changes commence in the area

A great opportunity to ride former WYPTE 8534 in its natural environment

A special event will see RWU 534R operate a return 517 journey on the 6th August.
The former Hebble route has seen a variety of buses over the years and will sadly be withdrawn on the 23rd July. Currently operated by First West Yorkshire out of their Halifax depot, it's final two Saturday afternoon journeys will cease to exist.

In memory of the longstanding route, 8534 will depart from Halifax ( location tbc ) at 1230 and follow the route of the 517 to Hebden Bridge for a departure at 1303. We will then travel through Heptonstall and onto Blackshaw Head and along the tops before descending and arriving into Burnley for 1352.
A meal break is planned here for roughly an hour before departing back for Halifax at 1500.
Arrival into Hebden Bridge will be around 1549 and Halifax at 1620.
Photostops will be arranged enroute for those intending to capture 8534 in her natural surroundings.

If you do intend to travel with us on Saturday 6th August, please message us before hand as spaces are limited to 43.

Also please bear in mind that FirstBus charge £4 for a day ticket so any donation towards the day will be greatly appreciated.

We hope to see you there for an enjoyable trip with good company.
