“Safe Licensed Horse Transport Isn’t a Luxury, It’s a responsibility”

Equine Flu is on the increase with more recent cases being reported throughout the UK. Whilst we already have strict Bio Security measures in place we feel that it is essential that we play a more active role by sharing information and bringing awareness to the forefront within the equine community.
I was reading info about the reported cases on this website (link below) and whilst specific locations of reported cases are mentioned, the region is and they state if other horses are affected and if there has been movement on and off the yard: https://equinesurveillance.org/equiflunet/

Licensed Horse transporters, within their/our professional practise & License remit, carry out a visual 'fit to travel' check on each horse before we load. We cast an observant eye over the horse, looking for any obvious stand out signs of ill health or lameness.

We also ask our clients at Booking if their horse has been in contact with (or had) any infectious diseases within the past 2 weeks.

In addition to this always clean the horsebox and equipment with a government approved disinfectant that kills Equine Flu and the bacteria that causes Strangles (amongst hundreds of other strains, viruses and bacteria) but we will also be sending information to our clients regarding the Equine Flu signs to look out for.

Plus we carry a digital animal thermometer on board our horsebox, we encourage horse owners to also have their own so that they too can carry out health checks on their own horse.

As Licensed Horse Transporters we can play our part in helping to combat the spread of Equine Flu but this needs to be a community effort too.
