Storm Éowyn: Stay Safe and Be Prepared 💨
With Storm Éowyn approaching, we want to help you stay safe.
An amber and yellow weather warning for wind has been issued for Blackburn with Darwen tomorrow, Friday 24 January.
The yellow warning is in place from 12am to 11:59pm, with the amber warning in place from 6am to 9pm.
What to expect:
👉 Very strong winds, with gusts more than 60-70 mph, bringing potential disruption and danger.
Advice for before and during the storm:
👉 Secure loose items: Ensure that ladders, bins, garden furniture, trampolines, or any objects that could be blown away are safely secured.
👉 Travel disruptions: Windy weather can cause delays and make conditions dangerous. Expect possible travel disruptions and amend your plans if necessary.
👉 Fallen trees & flying debris: Watch out for fallen trees and branches, particularly on minor roads where they may not have been reported. There is also chance that damage to buildings and homes could occur, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down.
👉 Check on vulnerable individuals: Power cuts are likely to occur. Please check in with those who might need extra help.
👉 Avoid downed electrical/telephone cables: Do not touch any cables that have been blown down or are hanging.
If you see a damaged or downed power line, stay clear and call 105 to report it. Dial 999 only if there is an immediate danger to life.
