An absolutely scorchio bank holiday Monday at Transport Museum Wythall. ☀️ 2789 and friends out and about to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the legendary 11 ‘Outer Circle’ bus route. Fantastic to see two of the BCT heritage liveried NX buses whilst on the tour to Acocks Green - during its 24 year career in Birmingham, 2789 was allocated to Yardley Wood and briefly at Acocks Green - so it almost certainly would have worked the 11 at some point!

Last week, we said goodbye to a fantastic friend and massive supporter of bus preservation, Ross Bingham. His funeral, whilst incredibly sad, was an example of what a popular and crucial part of the community he was - with hundreds turning up to pay their final respects. RIP Ross.

A bit of paint archaeology this weekend. Whilst sanding the 2789 Group’s other bus - Jumbo Fleetline 3997 - we discovered the old ‘Wumpty’ West Midlands PTE logo. This must been covered up for at least 45 years! It appears in during its fairly short 11 year stint in the West Midlands, it had three different ‘WM’ logos applied in this spot!

We’re looking forward to having this out and about at events later this year, all being well.

We’re having a clear out! 2789 has recently moved, and I’ve decided to have a clear out of the ‘spares’ that we’re unlikely to ever need. I’m starting to pop a few of these on eBay, via the link below. 2789 had a fair bit of work a couple of years ago when it was painted into BCT colours. Quite a few panels replaced - and most of the old hopper windows. So now’s your opportunity to own a genuine bit of a West Midlands Metrobus!

Hoppers Now Sold. More bits will be added over the coming days!

Some very sad news - today we lost Ross Bingham, a passionate member of the bus preservation community, and friend to many of us. He recently took on the project of restoring 6918, a West Midlands Fleetline that we helped repatriate from Ireland. That itself was a project that would have been dedicated to the late bus preservationist, Simon Lang. I do hope we’ll be able to complete the restoration of this vehicle, which I firmly intend to dedicate to both Simon and Ross.

RIP chap, you’ll be missed.

🎅🏼 🎄 It’s that time of year again! We’re running our usual little Christmas excursion on Tuesday 23rd with 2789. Please see timings below. We’ll be departing from Drakes Cross, and picking up and setting down at various points around Maypole / Kings Heath, taking a little trip towards Kings Norton and Druids Heath. Feel free to alight or board at any of the points listed.

Tea/ Coffee and mince pies will be available to purchase on board. Any profits from refreshments will go towards the continued upkeep of 2789. The trip is free of charge, but is strictly first come, first served.

It’ll be great to see a few of you on board! Bring your Christmas jumpers! 🎅🏼🎄🚌

From the people that brought you 2789, we’ve got a couple of early Christmas presents! Welcome West Midlands Fleetlines 3997 and 6918. 3997 is largely complete, with just a few internals to finish before painting. 6918 is a considerably more major project - recently repatriated from Ireland, where it’s been for nearly 30 years! More details to follow. In the meantime, we’re hoping to get our annual Mince Pie trip with 2789 arranged very soon - so watch this space 🚌

2789 will be out and about at Transport Museum Wythall tomorrow for their Twilight running day. Come along and say hello! 🚌

The big day is almost here! Our Twilight Running Day takes place tomorrow and it promises to be a great day. With a huge finale happy hour taking place as it gets dark - it really isn't one to miss!
