Latest update on today's planned Spitfire flypast

Departure from Leuchars is weather-delayed to 2pm and, judging by yesterday, even this detailed routing is indicative, not fixed.

Nonetheless it does look like she will probably follow the coast past Pennan, Gardenstown, Banff, Whitehills, Portsoy etc some time between 2.30 and 3pm (if there are no further weather or air traffic delays).

SPITFIRE TO FLY ALONG MORAY COAST THURSDAY 9 APRIL

The Spitfire first flew 90 years ago this week. For those like me who love such things, a rare 2-seat Spitfire is on a tour of GB this week.

It is due to depart Leuchars at 10am this Thursday, following the coast to Fraserburgh then west (joing up with a P8 Poseidon en route) to RAF Lossiemouth, landing around 11am.

Rough estimates suggests it should overfly Pennan, Gardenstown, Banff and Portsoy between about 1025 and 1045am (whether over land or just offshore, and at what altitude, has not been publicised).

But it'll be worth turning eyes to the skies, and listening out for the glorious growl of that 27 litre Rolls Royce Merlin 66 v12 engine
