One port call completed, the next horizon is already waiting. 🚢

Captured here during her departure at Tanjung Pelepas, our “Afif” is continuing her journey along one of the world’s busiest trade routes.

Before reaching Malaysia, she recently called at Shanghai and Yantian, connecting major ports across Asia before continuing south toward Tanjung Pelepas.

Now, she is back at sea again with her next destination still nearly a month away.

Can you guess where she’s heading next? ⬇️

Not every cargo fits inside a container. 🚢

In our latest Logbook story, we take you behind the scenes of a special cargo operation in Kitakyushu, Japan, where massive mining tires were loaded for their journey to Sydney, Australia.

Each tire stands around 4 meters tall and weighs more than 6.5 tons, requiring careful coordination, precise handling and close teamwork on site.

See how our Special Cargo teams move oversized shipments across the globe and watch the full operation in action: https://hl.ag/iew

Some of the most important vessels in a port are often the smallest. 🚢

Captured here in the Port of Hamburg, our “Kyoto Express” being guided by a tugboat during harbor operations.

Fun fact: Tugboats may be among the smallest vessels in port, but some can generate enough pulling power to help maneuver container ships weighing well over 100,000 tons with incredible precision.

A reminder that smooth port arrivals are always a team effort. ⚓

Let's be clear: women belong at sea. 🌊

That's why we're working with our partners to open more doors for women looking to build long-lasting careers in shipping.

Key measures of our Shefarer Program include:

🔸 At least 20% female cadets in future trainee intakes
🔸 Dedicated Shefarer vessels with multiple women seafarers across different ranks and functions
🔸 Improved onboard facilities for women on upcoming newbuildings

Today, women represent just 5.71% of our crew across the fleet. Through the Shefarer Program, we aim to raise awareness, support long-term career development, and foster a more inclusive working environment at sea. 🧡

Because strong crews are built on collaboration, respect, and equal opportunities. ⚓

Remember our container-counting challenge? 👀🚢

Many of you came impressively close – and the correct answer was 179 visible containers aboard our "Antwerpen Express".

A number that takes on a very special meaning today: it marks 179 years of Hapag-Lloyd. 🎉

This milestone isn't just about our company's journey – it's about the people and partnerships that have shaped it along the way.

To our customers, partners, colleagues, and crews around the world: thank you for your trust, collaboration, and continued support.

Here's to 179 years of connecting global trade – and to the journey ahead. 🌍

"It was like a garage built for five cars – and suddenly fifty were parked inside."

When the Suez Canal became effectively unusable in late 2023, shipping routes shifted overnight. West African ports faced volumes their infrastructure was never designed for.

Tangier was one of them – and inter-terminal transfers quickly became a critical bottleneck. Hundreds of trucks crawled across just a few kilometers between TC1 and TC3. Delays piled up, costs increased, dwell times stretched into weeks.

Until port manager Maria Francesca Zuddas and her team found a different approach, enabled by the newly established Gemini network.

They asked a straightforward question: what if the vessels themselves could do the job?

With Gemini connecting multiple terminals into one system, mainliners were already calling several stops. Containers could stay on board and move from terminal to terminal by sea.

The impact was immediate:

🔶 Dwell time dropped from weeks to a maximum of four days
🔶 Around $50 saved per container moved by vessel instead of truck

Or, as Maria puts it: “At the beginning, it felt chaotic – but later my whole garage was humming like a Ferrari engine.” 🏎️
