Dear Premier Houston,

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the detrimental effects that Uber is having on our local taxi and limousine industry here in Nova Scotia. As a business owner who has invested in providing professional, reliable transportation services, I have seen firsthand how this American company is undermining our industry, taking money out of our local economy, and threatening the livelihoods of hardworking Nova Scotians.

Unlike locally licensed taxi and limousine operators who comply with strict municipal and provincial regulations, Uber operates with an unfair advantage. Traditional taxi and limo services must adhere to rigorous licensing, insurance, and safety standards—costs that Uber drivers largely avoid. This creates an uneven playing field, harming small business owners and local drivers who have long served this province with professionalism and accountability.

Furthermore, with the current economic climate and trade tariffs in place, a significant portion of Uber’s revenue is flowing out of Canada and into the United States. This is money that should be supporting our local economy, reinvesting in our communities, and sustaining jobs for Nova Scotians. Instead, it is benefitting a foreign corporation with little commitment to the well-being of our province.

Premier, I urge your government to take action to level the playing field and reconsider Uber’s presence in our market. Our industry is built on years of experience, service, and dedication to both residents and visitors. Without intervention, we risk losing local businesses, jobs, and the integrity of Nova Scotia’s transportation sector.

I respectfully seek your support in protecting our industry from this unfair competition and ensuring that transportation services in Nova Scotia remain in the hands of those who have long contributed to our province’s success. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this matter further and explore solutions that prioritize local businesses and workers.
