Hey folks. This is Eric from EZ Taxi with my take on the meeting we taxi owners had at the Town of Bridgewater office with the Lunenburg County Wheels representatives and the town council representatives! First thing I want to say is that the County Wheels folks are a NON PROFIT supported by government and private funding and donations. They are attempting to come into Bridgewater as a taxi service for profit but are asking for the rules and prices that the town have fixed for all of us “regular” drivers not be applied to them!! They are asking to set their own pricing so that they can undercut the existing taxi companies. They can do this of course because of their government funding as a NON PROFIT!! There is no government money for us “regular” companies. We have to pay for vehicles, insurance, gas and repairs like everyone else while these expenses are paid for by government money for them! The only reason for this move is because their funding was originally cut by 20% but was reversed on appeal I guess they see the writing on the wall. If the town approves this request, which in my opinion should never have even been considered, then this will ultimately impact the regular taxis in town and effectively drive us all out of business one by one. They can argue that is not what they are doing but the numbers do not lie and to force regular taxis to try and compete with a government subsidized entity is not only crazy but not possible in the long term. Their presentation, in my opinion, was not truthful in their intent and I am very proud of our group for standing up with a unanimous NO vote on their proposal!! The taxi businesses in this town are all working for the betterment of the community we live in and we stood together to protect that community and our livelihoods together!
Sadly, also in my opinion, this meeting and the so-called public meeting they are supposed to hold is probably no more than theatre so that they can say that we all had a say before they approve LCW’s request. I believe it is a done deal already and we are just the pawns they need to say they ”consulted” with the owners and the public before doing what they planned to do anyway before any meetings were held. That is all I have to say other than I am real proud to be standing side by side with Patricia from Rite Cab, Barbie from King’s cab, Nancy from Season’s Taxi, Subin from SS Cabs, Ravi from Cabspot and Cal from Cal’s Taxi. We all stood up together with a resounding NO on the town’s proposal!!
