It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of our driver and friend, Darren Samoleski.

On Friday, December 12, Darren was involved in a tragic collision on Highway 1 in the Rogers Pass area near Revelstoke, BC.

Darren was one of the safest, most experienced, and most respected drivers we have ever had at Reimer Bros. He brought nearly 40 years of professional driving experience to the road and had logged over four million miles in his career. His knowledge, judgment, and professionalism were unmatched, and he set the standard for what it means to be a true professional driver.

Earlier this year, we introduced a new Driver of the Year program to recognize and reward safe drivers. Darren was named Driver of the Year for the second quarter, which was the very first time this award was ever presented. We often told Darren that if a driver could win the award more than once a year, he would win it every quarter.

At the time of the accident, Darren was driving within highway limits, and his records and conduct were in order. We reviewed the available video only to better understand the circumstances. The attending RCMP constable shared that Darren did everything right and spoke very highly of him as a professional driver.

Darren was dependable, steady, and quietly exceptional. He was the kind of driver every company hopes for, every dispatcher trusts, and every coworker respects. Losing someone of Darren’s experience and character is a profound loss, not only for our company, but for everyone who knew him and for the industry as a whole.

Our hearts are with Darren’s family, friends, and everyone affected by this tragedy. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

One of the Last of a Legend

This rig is not just old iron. It is a piece of trucking history. Our 1987 Peterbilt 359 was built in November of 1986, making it one of the last 359s ever made before the model was retired. No frills, no fluff, just raw diesel muscle built to work and built to last.

It still runs local loads around Armstrong, and when it fires up, you know it means business. This truck helped define what a real long hood should look like. Everything about it is solid old school. The sound, the feel, the stance. It is all there.

And if you caught the twin sticks in the cab, you know exactly what kind of machine this is. That is a twin-stick setup. One lever for the main box and the other for the auxiliary. It takes skill to drive it right. There are only a few old timers left in the crew who still know how to run it the way it was meant to be run. No automatics here. Just gears and guts.

We keep this truck working because that is what it was built to do. If you see it rolling down the road give it a nod. You are looking at the last of a dying breed and it is still getting the job done.

This morning, Shanda is making remarkable progress on her bike ride. She has covered around 300 km out of the total 3,600 km she needs to complete, despite still feeling the effects of some heat stroke from her time at the pool. The temperature in Buchs is a challenging 31 degrees Celsius. However, she has devised a strategy to tackle this challenge – she's cycling during the cooler night hours and cloudy conditions, while strategically taking a nap during the peak heat of the day.

Shanda occasionally jokes about not training, but her level of dedication is unparalleled. I've never known someone to work at her job as tirelessly as she does. Everything that she does, she puts her full effort into it. She works hard to finance the expenses associated with participating in races so she is extremely grateful to her sponsors for assisting her to follow her dreams and bring us along with her!

Thanks to Reimer Bros Trucking Ltd , Keith Construction, BC, and Rancho Vignola, a tremendous shoutout goes to their support. Their assistance holds means so much, and Shanda deeply appreciates their role in her journey.
