It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of our driver and friend, Darren Samoleski.
On Friday, December 12, Darren was involved in a tragic collision on Highway 1 in the Rogers Pass area near Revelstoke, BC.
Darren was one of the safest, most experienced, and most respected drivers we have ever had at Reimer Bros. He brought nearly 40 years of professional driving experience to the road and had logged over four million miles in his career. His knowledge, judgment, and professionalism were unmatched, and he set the standard for what it means to be a true professional driver.
Earlier this year, we introduced a new Driver of the Year program to recognize and reward safe drivers. Darren was named Driver of the Year for the second quarter, which was the very first time this award was ever presented. We often told Darren that if a driver could win the award more than once a year, he would win it every quarter.
At the time of the accident, Darren was driving within highway limits, and his records and conduct were in order. We reviewed the available video only to better understand the circumstances. The attending RCMP constable shared that Darren did everything right and spoke very highly of him as a professional driver.
Darren was dependable, steady, and quietly exceptional. He was the kind of driver every company hopes for, every dispatcher trusts, and every coworker respects. Losing someone of Darren’s experience and character is a profound loss, not only for our company, but for everyone who knew him and for the industry as a whole.
Our hearts are with Darren’s family, friends, and everyone affected by this tragedy. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
