Identifying the Challenges of Constructing a Metro Rail System in Dhaka
​Dhaka is the capital & one of the largest city of Bangladesh. The Dhaka metro rail is a rapid transit system currently under construction in the city. When complete, the metro will consist of three lines and 37 stations. The first line is expected to be operational in 2022.
The construction of a metro rail system in Dhaka faces many challenges. One of the biggest challenges is the dense population of the city. With a population of over 20 million people, Dhaka is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. This makes it difficult to find space to build the infrastructure for a metro system.
Another challenge is the limited financial resources of the government of Bangladesh. The government has estimated that the cost of constructing the Dhaka metro will be about $2.5 billion. However, it has only secured about $1 billion in funding so far. This has led to concerns that the project may not be completed on time or on budget.
In addition, the Dhaka metro faces challenges from the city's traffic congestion and air pollution. The metro system is designed to help alleviate these problems by providing a fast and efficient way to move people around the city. However, traffic congestion and air pollution are still major problems in Dhaka.
