What a night! 🏆

Last Friday, we held our 2026 NSS Employee Excellence Awards Night at The Ville Hotel & Casino , celebrating our 12 Employee of the Month winners and announcing our Employee of the Year!

It was great to see everyone come together for the night, especially those who travelled all the way from Mackay and Cloncurry to join us.

A huge congratulations to Jamie Windust, who took home the $5,000 grand prize and the title of 2026 Employee of the Year!

Jamie received the award for his incredible bravery while working a night shift at the Port of Mackay, where he saved a woman's life after she fell into the water, spending three hours in freezing, crocodile-infested waters helping keep her safe until help arrived. A truly remarkable effort, and we couldn't think of a more deserving recipient.

As for the rest of the night, it's probably a good thing we held it on a Friday, because we're fairly certain a few people woke up feeling a little worse for wear on Saturday morning!

A big thank you to everyone who came along and made the night what it was, and congratulations again to all 12 of our monthly winners.

And with that, we're already starting the countdown to next year's awards! Nominations for October 2026 Employee of the Month are open, so if you've got someone in mind who deserves a bit of recognition, make sure you nominate them. You never know, they might be taking home the $5,000 next year!

A great start to Seniors Month at Townsville Table Tennis

Today marked the first of the Seniors Come & Try Days, proudly supported by NSS!

It's a fantastic opportunity for local seniors to get active, meet new people, enjoy a bit of friendly competition and maybe even discover a new hobby!

If you missed out today, you can still come by on Monday 19 October (9-12), and Friday 23 October for the Seniors Luncheon & Free play (from 12pm).

Everyone is welcome to come along and give it a go!

We're proud to support the Townsville Table Tennis Association in bringing events like these to our local community.

NSS is proud to support Townsville Table Tennis Assoication this Seniors Month, helping bring a series of social and active events to the local community.

Throughout October, TTTA will be hosting two FREE Come & Try Days on Monday 12 and Monday 19 October, welcoming seniors of all skill levels to come along, have a hit and enjoy a social morning at the club.

NSS is also supporting the Seniors Social Session & Luncheon on Friday 23 October, helping subsidise a $40 Golden Roast buffet to just $20 per person, including a glass of w**e or soft drink.

We’re pleased to support an initiative that encourages local seniors to stay active, social and connected.

Congratulations to Aaron Bathe, our September Employee of the Month!

Aaron has been recognised for his outstanding commitment, flexibility and reliability, stepping up from his Team Leader position into the Relief Ship Planner role at short notice while continuing to support the wider Stevedoring and Townsville teams.

September also marks a major milestone, Aaron is our 12th and final monthly winner to join the field for Employee of the Year, with all 12 nominees set to be celebrated at our upcoming Employee Excellence Awards Night. One of them will take home the $5,000 Employee of the Year grand prize.

We’re proud to get behind Aaron Ohl as he prepares to take on the 2026 for The Cure Starts Now.

In October, Aaron will join 29 other challengers for a gruelling 30-hour endurance challenge, designed to push participants to their physical and mental limits while raising funds for research and clinical trials focused on childhood brain cancer.

Aaron has been putting in the work for months, training with the group twice a week as well as completing additional training on his own in preparation for the event.

NSS is proud to contribute $2,000 toward the cause, and we’ll also be holding additional fundraising at our upcoming Employee Excellence Awards to help support Aaron and The Cure Starts Now.

Brain cancer kills more Australian children than any other disease, and every contribution helps support the research working to change that.

Happy World Maritime Day ⚓

For more than 55 years, the maritime industry has been at the heart of what we do at NSS.

When you think about the industry, it’s easy to picture the big stuff like ships, cranes, containers and heavy machinery. But behind every vessel loaded, every piece of cargo handled and every tonne moved are the people who make it happen.

From crews on the wharf to logistics, transport, warehousing, maintenance and engineering teams, along with ports, customers and countless others behind the scenes, it takes a huge network of people to keep our supply chains moving.

Those supply chains connect regional communities and industries with the rest of Australia and the world.

Last Wednesday, NSS was proud to attend the Kirwan State High School Clontarf Awards Night, celebrating the achievements and hard work of the young men in the Kirwan Clontarf Academy.

We’re proud to be a partner of the Clontarf Foundation and support the work they do creating opportunities for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men through education, mentoring and pathways into employment.

It was also great to see plenty of familiar faces! Throughout the year, our team gets involved with Clontarf through industry tours, interview practice and other activities, giving students the chance to learn more about the workplace and the different career paths available to them.

Congratulations to everyone recognised on the night, and thanks to the Clontarf team for having us along. We’re looking forward to plenty more together!
