When operating in a tidal system, spring brings more benefits than just good weather - it brings favourable tides 🌊
Our tidal modelling shows that while our barges are able to reach their maximum capacity of 7,5 tonnes in both May and October during high tides, their lowest tides have a difference of roughly 25cm. Though it doesn't sound like much, the lower the tide, the less we're able to load and logistically those centimetres can be worth hundreds of tonnes of cargo.
The barges in the picture tell the same story. The more cargo loaded, the deeper the barges sit in the water and the amount we can safely load depends heavily on the tide beneath.
So we welcome spring with joy with higher low tides creating more consistent loading opportunities, helping us make the most of every loading cycle.
