At 6:30pm WA time, Perth Airport released a statement confirming Terminal 1 was being re-opened, but delays were expected and passengers should check directly with their airline for details.

Perth Airport has advised of disruptions at Terminal 1, including the pick-up and drop-off area being temporarily closed.

Passengers are advised to check the Perth Airport website for updates.

A Perth Airport spokesperson provided the following statement just after 4:30pm local time:

"The security and safety of all passengers and staff is the priority at Perth Airport.

An unattended item is currently being investigated by the Australian Federal Police and Western Australia Police at Perth Airport.

As a precaution, an exclusion zone has been established in the area.

The T1 forecourt pick-up and drop-off road has been temporarily closed while police conduct their investigation.

Passengers can conduct drop-off and pick-up activity from the T1 Short Term Car Park."
