⏱️ Retro & Heritage Trains departing Moorooduc at 10:00, 11:15 and 12:45. Extra 2:00PM train for Superheroes on 27th & 28th

BZN275 launch to service

This Sunday 31st of May & 7th of June we are operating our Retro Train.

For the first time we will he adding a fourth carriage to the consist, BZN which is an accessible carriage with space for wheelchairs. This carriage arrived at Moorooduc on 28th of February 2025 after being retired from V/Line regional services

Enjoy travel on 1980’s vintage carriages, which are very comfortable with heating & air-conditioning.

📍 Find us at Moorooduc Station. Two bays road exit from Moorooduc Highway. Follow signs towards Mt Eliza Regional Park
🚂 Trains depart at 10:00AM, 11:15AM & 12:45PM
🛤️ Join us for the 50 minute return family friendly Train Ride.

📣 Welcome back to service 65AW

After 4 months of work, 65AW has emerged after its long awaited overhaul. The carriage was withdrawn due to concerns regarding it's timber cladding, and over the past few months the carriage team have replaced all stickwood on the ends and between the windows. the carriage also had some attention to it's roof and interior, and the car was given a repaint and new lettering

🗓️ 65AW will return to service on Sunday 14th of June, our next Heritage Train rides day.

Back by popular demand, our hugely popular SUPERHERO Train Rides are returning this June and July — bringing action, adventure, and heroic fun for the whole family! 🚂✨

Get ready to dress up as your favourite superhero and step into an unforgettable experience packed with excitement. Will you arrive as a caped crusader, web-slinging hero, or your own original superhero creation? Everyone is encouraged to join in the fun!

⭐ Meet and greet our visiting superhero as they take time out from their busy crime-fighting schedule to visit us.
⭐ Take part in a special Superhero Training Class and learn the skills needed to become a hero yourself.

Would you like to Drive a Train? 🚂

We have two options for you to consider:
1. Drive a Locomotive - Trundles (20 minute experience)
2. Premium Driver Experience (half day experience)

You can drive one of the Mornington Tourist Railway’s locomotive fleet, either a 1941 vintage steam locomotive or a 1950/60’s era diesel/electric locomotive!

The Trundles (20 minute) are a 2km drive of the locomotive from Moorooduc to Wooralla Drive & return.

🗓️ Steam & Diesel - Saturday 20th of June

The Premium Driver Experience (half day) includes:
• Safety briefing & guest driver instruction
• Driving the locomotive to Mornington and return (12km)
• Assembling carriages (shunting) to build a train at Moorooduc
• Optional Catering
• Driving a second trip to Mornington with family and friends travelling in the carriages (12km)
• Presentation of Certificate/s of Achievement
Total driving approx. 25km distance

As the cooler weather settles in and our amazing volunteers spend some weekends hard at work restoring our heritage carriage fleet, we’re switching things up for comfort and style!

Step aboard our enclosed climate-controlled Retro Carriages and enjoy a nostalgic railway adventure in warmth and comfort. Sit back, relax, and watch the countryside roll by while experiencing the charm of rail travel from a bygone era.

📣 We are excited to announce our next Trundles sessions date

🚂 Drive a Locomotive - Trundles
🗓️ Saturday 20th of June 2026

Ever wanted to drive a locomotive?

Well this is YOUR chance to drive one of our historic locomotives for an exhilarating Trundle up our line!

📍 Moorooduc Station. Find us from the Two Bays road exit of Moorooduc Highway, follow signs towards Mt Eliza Regional Park.

The experience will include approximately 2km of driving from Moorooduc and return including a photo opportunity in the drivers seat with the crew at the conclusion. This short Driver Experience lasts around 20 minutes (not to be confused with our full day Driver Experience program).

Choose your locomotive and select a session time for the experience of a life time!

You can choose either,
1. The 1941 vintage K163 steam loco which weighs in at over 100 tons,
2. The 1968 heritage 950 horse power diesel electric loco T411,

All funds will be put towards the restoration of our K177 Steam Locomotive project.

The Mornington Tourist Railway’s Driver Experience program allows you to drive a 1941 vintage steam or a 1950/60’s era diesel/electric locomotive yourself!

The day’s experience includes:
• Safety briefing & guest driver instruction

This week has been National Volunteer week. Our railway is entirely operated by volunteers, everything from running the trains, maintaining the rolling stock and locomotives, maintaining our tracks, signals and infrastructure are all done by members of the Mornington Railway Preservation Society Inc. since 1984.

It doesn’t stop there either, we do our own marketing, events planning/management, rail safety accreditation, advocacy with all levels of government. It is a huge community all with the shared vision of preserving our railway heritage and developing a major tourism attraction to benefit the local economy.

We also receive alot of support by other local community organisations such as:

Rotary Mount Eliza
Friends of the Mornington Railway Reserve
Mornington Community Safe Link
Victorian Men's Shed Assocation
SES Hastings Unit
Community Bank Mt Eliza
