Even New York is in on banning horse slaughter

NEW YORK BANS HORSE SLAUGHTER

New York has officially banned the slaughter of horses within the state — and made it illegal to sell or transport them for that purpose.

For years, thousands of horses have been shipped long distances across borders to slaughter facilities. This law cuts New York out of that system, closing off one route that fed into it.

It doesn’t end horse slaughter across the country, but it’s a clear move toward stronger protections — and a sign that attitudes are shifting.

Real change doesn’t happen all at once. It happens like this.

Do you think this should be nationwide?

Such great news for all animals

Great Britain has officially banned the live export of farm animals for slaughter and fattening—becoming the first jurisdiction in Europe to take this step.

The law applies across England, Scotland, and Wales, marking a major shift in how animal welfare is handled at a national level. Northern Ireland is not included due to its separate trade arrangements, and there are still exemptions for animals exported for breeding, as well as for poultry. These are built into the legislation, not oversights.

At the heart of the decision is a long-standing welfare concern.

For decades, veterinary experts and animal welfare organisations have documented the harsh realities of long-distance transport. Animals can face extreme temperatures, dehydration, exhaustion, and injury during journeys that stretch far beyond UK borders. Once they leave Great Britain, the welfare protections they had at home no longer apply.

Brexit played a key role in making this possible. Under previous EU trade rules, the UK could not impose a ban like this on its own. The post-Brexit regulatory landscape created the legal freedom to act.

While the European Union still allows live exports between member states and to other countries, pressure for reform has been growing. By moving first, Great Britain has set a benchmark—one that may increase scrutiny on other governments to follow.

It’s a significant moment in the wider conversation about how animals are treated, and where responsibility truly ends.

Lest we forget 🌺

Today we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who served — and those who never made it home.

We honour their legacy, and we stand in gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy because of them.

To those who continue to serve, thank you.

We will remember them. ❤️

We had the pleasure of picking up not one Black Beauty today but two!!
Phoenix has travelled with us previously & loaded well. Emmy, his paddock mate was a little inquisitive before walking straight up for her owner. They both travelled well to their new agistment where they got straight down to business in their new paddock & calmly started munching grass.
