Metropolitan Melbourne lockdown extended for 14 days with additional restrictions

The current lockdown in metropolitan Melbourne has been extended to 11:59pm 2 September 2021. Restrictions have also been strengthened to curb the current COVID-19 outbreaks.

Current restrictions in metropolitan Melbourne
In Melbourne, there are only five reasons to leave your home:
• getting the food and the supplies you need,
• exercising for up to two hours,
• care or caregiving,
• work or education if you can’t do it from home,
• or to get vaccinated at the nearest possible location.
There is a curfew in Melbourne from 9pm to 5am, with very limited reasons to leave the house.
Driving Instructors are not permitted to work during the lockdown.
Permits for authorised workers will return.
From 11:59pm on Tuesday August 17, all commercial passenger vehicle and bus drivers providing services in metropolitan Melbourne must carry an Authorised Worker Permit when working and when travelling to and from work. If you are a sole trader, you can issue a work permit and sign the permit as both the employer and employee. Authorised Worker Permits are available at coronavirus.vic.gov.au.
It is not the driver’s responsibility to check their passengers have an appropriate permit to travel.
Commercial passenger vehicles remain an essential service and drivers can continue to operate in metropolitan Melbourne during this time, including during curfew hours. Vehicle cleaning regulations continue to apply.
Bus drivers can work within metropolitan Melbourne, however please check with TSV for information about restrictions that apply to bus services.

Current restrictions in regional Victoria
There are no stay-at-home orders in regional Victoria, however certain restrictions remain in place. Find information on how new restrictions affect you at COVIDSafe Settings.
Regional Victorians will only be able to travel to Melbourne for a permitted reason and must follow the metropolitan Melbourne restrictions once there.
CPVs can continue to provide services between metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. Passengers must ensure they meet the relevant permitted reasons for travel. CPV drivers are not responsible for ensuring their passengers meet the permitted reasons for travel.
Driving Instructors are permitted to work within regional Victoria.
Bus drivers can work in regional Victoria, however please check with TSV for information about restrictions that apply to bus services.

Cross-border bubble
All cross-border community residents will require a permit to cross the border between Victoria and New South Wales. This applies to CPV drivers, bus drivers and driving instructors.
Permits can be obtained from the Service Victoria website, service.vic.gov.au or the Service Victoria app from Thursday.
The reasons cross-border community area residents can cross the Victorian-NSW border remain the same.
CPV drivers are not responsible for ensuring their passengers meet the Victorian entry requirement.

COVIDSafe settings still apply in all CPVs, which means face masks must be worn at all times unless a lawful exemption applies, and passengers must check-in to CPVs using QR codes provided. You must also adhere to vehicle cleaning regulations.
A specific CPV QR poster with a QR code AND 6-digit location code must be displayed in all CPVs. You cannot display the QR code without the 6-digit location code as passengers use these digits to check in manually. Learn more on CPVV’s Service Victoria QR Code Requirement - Record Keeping webpage.
