It's great to see the Minister for Public Transport Ben Carroll MP visited the newly upgraded Crossing. It's a shame we didn't get the chance to personally thank him for finally reopening the Crossing.

Happy New Year, here is some good news about the long-overdue reopening of the Grenville St Crossing. Michael Wintrip, the Communications and Engagement Lead from the Victorian Department of Transport has stated that:

“This weekend [30 & 31 January] there is a disruption of the Sandringham line that will allow for the maintenance of assets along the rail corridor as well as signal upgrades associated with the Grenville Street Pedestrian Crossing.”

The image of the 'Patient Bear' was recently captured by our local member of Parliament James Newbury MP.

Our Local Member of Parliament James Newbury MP has distributed this letter. It updates the Community on the Governments inability to make a firm commitment concerning when the Grenville St Crossing will be reopened.

2020 has concluded and the Grenville Street Crossing upgrade has been finished, but not tested, so it will remain closed until at least February 2021. Earlier in the year, Nina Taylor MP from the Andrew's Government claimed some credit for the upgrade and promised it would be open before the end of 2020. Our local member of Parliament James Newbury MP cannot get a firm commitment from the Government concerning when it will open. It appears that the Hampton community will have to continue to patiently wait for the bureaucrats from the Department of Transport to do their job and accept that some politicians don't honour their commitments!

Reopening delayed to 2021.

Signalling and commissioning works that were scheduled for the Grenville Street Crossing on the weekend of 5 and 6 December have been delayed. This is due to a fault elsewhere in the Freight network, that the Government prioritised dealing with ahead of the Hampton Crossing.

As a consequence of the works not taking place, the Government has said: “we expect the crossing will re-open in early 2021”.

As part of the annual Statewide Railway Crossing Program the Grenville Street pedestrian rail crossing is being upgraded.

An official spokesperson from the Department of Transport has communicated that "we expect the crossing to be open within the week following electrical and signalling works and testing".

It is assumed these commissioning tasks have been undertaken whilst the Sandringham line is closed for the weekend.

Workers visiting the site, today confirmed that the Crossing would re-open in mid-December. As the train line needs to close over a weekend for “Commissioning Works”.

It has been 12 months (19/11/19) since the Crossing was closed. In addition, over two months have elapsed since the construction work commenced on a part-time basis.
