They have previously been painted in black and white artwork but were repainted in colour in early 2025 because of deterioration.

Heywood water tower have paid tribute to our Indigenous war hero's The Lovett brothers and Captain Reginald Saunders an Indigenous Military leader who served in WW2 and Korea.

The Lovett family have a strong military legacy and overall 21 men and women have served Australia abroad in countries including Japan, Vietnam, Korea and Afghanistan and all have returned home safely. It is believed to be unequalled in Australia.
