Unless another lesser speed limit applies, when lights flash on the back of a bus, you should stay below:

A: 40km/h
B: 50km/h

Guess what's back? Back again? School zones are back. Tell a friend.

Reminder that Term 2 has begun, and school bus services have now resumed.

Please help us keep kids safe and SLOW DOWN to 40 Kph in school zones and whenever the bus lights flash.

Behind every service is a professional driver responsible for a busload of passengers.

Safe driving begins before the key is turned. Adequate sleep, hydration and managing stress all influence alertness and decision-making behind the wheel.

Safety is also a shared workplace responsibility. Supporting physical and mental wellbeing is critical to operating safely every shift.

Looking after yourself helps you look after your passengers.

For school children, the highest risk period is often the minutes after getting off the bus.

Meet children on the same side of the road as the bus stop and never call them across the road. Supervise young children near traffic — particularly those under 10 — and encourage them to sit quickly and buckle up if seatbelts are provided.

Planning ahead, especially when starting a new school or using a rural stop, helps reduce risk.

🚍 It takes a bus much longer to stop than a car when they brake at the same time 🤯

Buses can't stop quickly due to their large size, so make sure to give them space when overtaking and let them pass before stepping onto the road when out walking 🚶

Passengers play an important role in ensuring a safe journey.

Stand back from the kerb while waiting and stay alert as the bus approaches. Once onboard, take a seat promptly and buckle up where seatbelts are fitted. If standing, hold on and remain steady until the bus comes to a complete stop.

Press the stop button well before your destination to give the driver adequate notice.

Small actions make a meaningful difference.
