The sights and sounds of a manual Volvo B10m was once common throughout Sydney’s Hills District as the majority of route buses at the Glenorie Bus Co were manual through the 90s into the mid 2000s. Thanks to David Rae for this video, dropping some Victorian enthusiasts at Cherrybrook Station the day after Busfest following a depot and shed tour. TV8126 is a Mk4 Volvo B10M with an Autobus body and was new to National Bus Co as 595ESV based in Capalaba, QLD. When new, they were spruiked as the first seat belted route buses in the country and were painted in a gold livery to run trips to the Casino. Since joining our fleet it has had an electronic desto, alloy wheels, TV/DVD and new interior fitted. It is one of the nicest B10m’s I’ve ever experienced and remains in limited use in our charter fleet.

With not much happening on the new Contingency Bussing Contract, we have moved our 3x newly registered rail buses off site into our storage shed as for the last month they have just been looking pretty in the back corner of the depot.

This has given us an opportunity to pose our Countrylink / Trainlink coaches together to celebrate our two poor investment choices in our fleet.

The Countrylink Coach is a Hino CM277 which worked out to be the most underwhelming and chronically unreliable vehicle in our fleet. It did however have a magical exhaust note possibly due to a muffler delete. The Trainlink coach is a beautiful MAN 18.360 plagued with a fleet unfriendly ZF AS-Tronic transmission. It is however a super cool drive if you enjoy working hard to get the most out of the transmission.

A lot of the rail work has been given back to the "old" operator on an expired contract without needing to comply with any of the new requirements. For us the added costs of tablets, mounts, monthly SIM cards, extra environmental protection insurance and Aboriginal procurement requirements have mounted up pretty quickly and are especially noticeable in the current economic climate.

On the bright side, at least my kids, cousins and all their close friends now have their own internet-ready tablets to play Roblox with.

Buying a bus from the other side of the country? Come along for the adventure as we find a good value, great spec Scania K310 with a ZF auto but with an Irizar body. There’s a lot to learn about buying a bus from the other side of the country from assessing it in photos and service records, to the logistics of getting it home to finding typical black steel rust. Well…… that’s a wrap! With Busfest over, the two Denning’s are tucked up back in the shed. We will hopefully try to actually take them out more than once a year. This year’s highlights included a visit by the Brisbane Transport Museum to our depot followed by a drive by of some of Sydney’s greatest sights for some unique photo opportunities. If you are looking for something to do this weekend the Sydney Bus Museum is hosting Busfest on Sunday 20th of September at White Bay. We’ll be displaying two Denning’s from our collection including a 1983 Mono which was new to Martin’s in Albury and our 1987 Landseer which was new to Ventura before going to McCafferty’s, Greyhound and Shoalbus before joining our operational fleet in 2012. Expect to see other classic Denning’s there including ones never displayed before. We’ll also have our Surfside B12BLE there too. Hope to see you there!

The countdown to Busfest is on! In this video we take you behind the scenes as we prepare our Denning Landseer to come out of its COVID-19 Hibernation from a full service, interior detailing to a tour underneath on a hoist. Busfest is back in 2026 and we’ve been busily preparing our exhibits. This year we will be displaying the first ever Volvo B12BLE in Australia as well as two classic Denning Coaches. Held at White Bay, it is on Sunday 20th September 2026. For more information check out the Sydney Bus Museum’s website or page.

We didn’t know what to expect….. Here’s an update on our bendy bus project. With horror stories of windows falling out whilst in service, we decided before putting on a paint job we’d tackle what really matters underneath and give our bendy a serious second chance in service. Want to be part of our design team to work out its paint scheme? We’ll keep you posted on an upcoming challenge!

In this video we take you along for the whole adventure as we quickly learn about our MAN 18.360 with a ZF AS-Tronic gearbox and race to get it ready for a big weekend of Central Coast Rail.
