You may have noticed a familiar landmark is no longer part of the skyline at Toondah Harbour.

The tower has been removed after almost 40 years, marking the end of a structure many locals and visitors will recognise.

Originally used as the FM104 radio tower at Expo 88, it was transported up the river by our “Myora” vehicle ferry before being reassembled at the terminal, where it stood for decades.

Over the years, it became a quiet landmark signalling the start of a trip to Straddie or a familiar arrival on the mainland.

We’d love to hear your stories about the tower. Does anyone remember its arrival?

Good luck to everyone taking part in this weekend’s Straddie Salute Triathlon Festival 🏊🚴🏃

We’re excited to welcome competitors, supporters and spectators across to the island for another huge weekend of sport and community spirit. Wishing all participants the very best for race day!

With increased passenger and vehicle numbers expected across the weekend, we encourage all customers travelling to the island to arrive early for their ferry service and allow extra time for travel.

Please also be aware that temporary road closures will be in place across parts of the island on Saturday. For more information, please visit: www.straddiesalute.com.au/roads/

Due to these road closures the 10.45am connecting bus service from Dunwich ferry terminal to Point Lookout will be cancelled.
