This National Road Safety Week, CMET is reminding everyone that safety is a shared responsibility on the road and around the light rail network.

Every day, our drivers, customer service officers and operational teams work to keep Canberra moving safely. Whether you’re driving, walking, riding or travelling on light rail, the choices you make can help prevent serious incidents and save lives.

When travelling near light rail, remember to:
🚋 Stay alert and avoid distractions at crossings and platforms
🚦 Only cross at designated crossings and obey traffic signals
📱 Keep phones down and look up before crossing tracks
🚲 Slow down near stops and shared paths

This week is an opportunity to reflect and recommit to safer behaviours every time you travel.

Heading out with the family today? A quick safety reminder near light rail stops and crossings.

Hold little hands to avoid separation, stand back behind the yellow line until the LRV comes to a complete stop, and wait for passengers to get off before boarding.

We’re excited to share that CMET is a finalist in the Community Safety Award category at the 2026 Australian Rail Industry Standards Organisation Rail Safety Awards🎉

Our Rail Safety Week School Poster Program is recognised for helping engage local students and the wider community in important rail safety conversations through creativity and education.

Every year for Rail Safety Week, students create posters promoting safe behaviour around the light rail network, helping spread important safety messages in a fun and engaging way 🚋

A big thank you to all the schools, students, teachers and partners who continue to support the program and help make our community safer.

Good luck to all finalists!
