Brilliant piece by David Hollis..
Anthony Albanese recently announced a Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion in the wake of the horrific Bondi attack, talking about healing the nation and uniting us against division.
And sure, that's noble—antisemitism is a vile scourge that needs stamping out, no question. But let's cut the crap and call out the elephant in the room: the biggest, most insidious threat to Australia's social cohesion isn't lurking in the shadows of extremism or some fringe hate groups. No, it's blaring from every headline, every TV screen, and every opinion piece pumped out by the Murdoch empire—News Corp!
These media moguls have been poisoning the well of public discourse for decades, and now we're pretending a royal commission will fix things without pointing the finger at them? Give me a break!
Think about it: while Albo's commission is set to probe the drivers of antisemitism and ways to strengthen our multicultural fabric, News Corp is out here every day, fanning the flames of division like it's their full-time job. They've mastered the art of double standards—hyping up one side of a story while burying the other, creating echo chambers that pit Aussies against each other.
Remember how they've been accused of peddling Islamophobia right alongside selective outrage on antisemitism? It's not journalism; it's a recipe for tearing society apart!
And don't get me started on their role in inciting extremism—outlets like Sky News and The Australian are better at stirring up hate and misinformation than any social media algorithm. They're delegitimizing valid criticism, amplifying white nationalism, and endangering minorities across the board. This isn't just bias; it's a calculated assault on democracy itself!
How dare they wrap themselves in the flag of "free speech" while systematically undermining social cohesion? They've hounded governments, muted the ABC through endless attacks and funding cut threats, and turned elections into circuses of fear-mongering.
Look at the regional news vacuum they've helped create—shuttering local papers left and right, leaving communities without accountable reporting, which experts say is a direct threat to democracy and cohesion.
Meanwhile, their empire thrives on outrage p**n, turning complex issues like the Gaza conflict into weapons that blame protests for "fraying" unity, while ignoring the real horrors that spark them.
Hypocrites!
If social cohesion means silencing minorities and shrugging at injustice just to keep the status quo, then count me out.
Albanese's royal commission better not tiptoe around this. If we're serious about healing, we need to drag News Corp into the light—regulate their monopoly, call out their propaganda, and remind them that media power comes with responsibility, not a license to divide and conquer.
Otherwise, this inquiry is just window dressing while the real vandals of unity laugh all the way to the bank. Wake up, Australia—we deserve better than this toxic media stranglehold!
