I'm excited for the 'Blessing of the Surf' event this Saturday at Woorim, Bribie Island. It's been running since 2005, and it's purpose is to honor and bless our oceans and the people who enjoy them. I attended last year on request from my mother-in-law, who was playing in a ukelele group at the event. I was really taken back by how cool and roots the vibe of it all was. There was a reading about surfing's introduction to Australia by none other than Duke Kahanamoku, and a blowing of the conch shell, followed by a paddle out that only a few surfer's participated in. There were fun little waves, but I didn't have any gear to paddle out, so I reluctantly sat on the beach and watched. Bribie is a special little place, and this is one of those events that allows you to feel some of the passion and spirit that surrounds it. We'll be there early this year and with plenty of gear...there will be waves too! The event starts at 7:30am...We'll be under a yellow tent, hanging out among the good vibes...Hope to see you there.
