Gunnedah High has a proud tradition of involvement in Anzac Day ceremonies.

Students and staff are invited to join in the ceremonies in Gunnedah, Boggabri, Curlewis, and Baan Baa on Saturday 25 April. Students are asked to wear full school uniform and bring a water bottle

• Baan Baa: 5am at the Memorial
• Boggabri: Assemble at the Post Office by 8.20am
• Curlewis: Assemble at the Commercial Hotel by 8.45am
• Gunnedah: Assemble at Mitre 10 by 10.15am

Today marks the start of Bus Safety Week 2026 — a reminder that safety around buses is a shared responsibility across our communities.

Every day in NSW, buses carry thousands of passengers, including school children. While buses are one of the safest modes of transport, they are large, heavy vehicles and can’t stop quickly.

For motorists, small actions make a big difference:
• Leave at least a 3-second gap behind a bus
• Don’t merge too closely in front
• Slow to 40km/h when bus lights are flashing (unless a lower limit applies)
• Remember blind spots — if you can’t see the mirrors, the driver can’t see you

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing safety reminders for all road users.

Together, we can help ensure every bus journey across NSW is a safe one.

Eligibility
You need to live a minimum distance from your school to be eligible for a free school travel pass. The minimum distance varies according to the year/grade you are enrolled in, in that calendar year:

Years K to 2 (Infants): no minimum distance
Years 3 to 6 (Primary): 1.6km straight line distance or 2.3km walking or further
Years 7 to 12 (Secondary): 2km straight line distance or 2.9km walking or further.

TAFE students must be:
aged under 18 at 1 January of year of application
enrolled in a full-time TAFE course at a minimum of 16 hours per week

The new school year is nearly here!

All students will start on Monday, February 2, but before then, we encourage families to attend our Ready, Set, GHS! event on Thursday, January 29, from 2pm to 5pm in the Hall.

This event is a great chance for students and families to get organised and connected before Day 1.

Students will be able to:
• Collect their timetable
• Meet their teachers
• Receive a free uniform (polo shirt and shorts)
• Pick up a free stationery pack and backpack
• Make their Term 1 sport choice
• Enjoy a free BBQ

We’re looking forward to kicking off the year together!
