The importance of Seniors getting out of the house.

A new study suggests that older adults should get out of the house more; leaving their homes on a daily basis could help them to live longer.

Many seniors have basic needs that are not meant that include transportation, with transportation they are able to pick up medications, go to the doctors, dentist, or even as basic as picking up food.
We are here to transport you.

According to AARP, 88 percent of seniors want to stay in their own homes as long as they can. But where are those homes? In auto-dependent suburbs. That’s where most Baby Boomers grew up, in the postwar era, and that’s where most of them have stayed – even as the largest (and longest-living) generation ever enters its golden years.
However, more than 20 percent of seniors (age 65 and up) do not drive at all. In the spread-out, transit-poor communities where many of them live, seniors who don’t drive miss out on countless opportunities.
Don't let your Parents or Grandparents be a Statistic we are here for them.

Not all seniors are lucky enough to have a family member that lives nearby or that is willing to help them with transportation.
Sadly being left alone at home with no resource of transportation has linked social isolation and loneliness to higher risks for a variety of physical and mental conditions: high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, a weakened immune system, anxiety, depression, cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease, and even death.

600,000 older adults stop driving each year, according to the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging.

That can make it harder for aging or ill loved ones to make doctor's appointments, shop for necessities, visit family or attend social events. And that increases their isolation, negatively affecting their health and well-being.

Transportation can become one of the biggest responsibilities for family caregivers. About 40 percent of caregivers spend at least five hours a week providing transport, according to a 2018 survey from the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center.

Providing transportation is not always easy or convenient. “Some family caregivers just can't leave their job every time somebody needs a ride to the doctor, much less even to the grocery store, this is why we are here for you to make sure your family member has transportation.

There are many reasons why someone might have to stop driving but there is no reason they can't get to where they need to go . We are here to transport your loved one.
As you get older, your vision, reflexes, and hearing change. These changes can make it harder for you to drive safely.
People age 70 and older are more likely to crash than any other age group besides drivers age 25 and younger. And because older drivers are more fragile, they are more likely to get hurt or die from these crashes.
There's no set age when everyone should stop driving. Each person is different. But keep in mind that most people drive 7 to 10 years longer than they should. Here are some warning signs to watch for:
Other drivers often honk at you.
You are having accidents, even if they are only fender benders.
You have trouble staying in your lane.
You get lost, even on roads you know.
Talk with your doctor about health problems that could get in the way of driving safely. For example, do you have stiffness or joint pain that makes it hard to turn your head or the steering wheel? Do you have problems seeing or hearing clearly?

Don't miss a doctors appointment or not make an appointment due to lack of transportation
Regular medical check-ups can help identify risk persons and act preventatively. Besides, older adults are more vulnerable to illnesses because of a decreasing immune system. Additionally, mental illnesses like dementia and depression are among the important health problems the older population is facing.

What is NEMT?

Medicaid beneficiaries with complex health and social needs struggle to find safe and reliable transportation to non-emergency medical appointments. For example:

A low-income older adult with renal failure needs to go to a clinic for dialysis three times per week.
A child with leukemia enrolled in Medicaid may need to go to an oncology clinic every other day.

Without access to a car or reliable public transportation, people in these kinds of situations will regularly miss outpatient medical appointments. The results are predictable: worsening health, emergency room visits, and expensive inpatient hospitalizations. Missed medical appointments due to lack of transportation also make life infinitely more difficult for the providers who care for these patients.
