🚛 What Happens During a DOT Physical?

A DOT physical checks whether a commercial driver is medically able to safely perform the demands of the job.

During the appointment, the certified medical examiner will typically:

✅ Review your medical history and current medications
✅ Check your blood pressure and pulse
✅ Test your vision and hearing
✅ Measure your height and weight
✅ Examine your heart, lungs, spine, limbs and overall physical condition
✅ Collect a urine sample to screen for certain health conditions

Important: The urine sample collected during a DOT physical is not a drug test. A DOT drug test is a separate service.

If you meet the required medical standards, you may receive a Medical Examiner’s Certificate. Some drivers qualify for up to two years, while others may receive a shorter certification period if monitoring is needed.
