It’s been a little while since I shared a transport.
Kricket (the van) and I drove 144 miles round trip today.
The client I drove has become a regular along with his caregiver from his adult family home.
Our starting point was Mount Vernon to Burien to a beautiful church for a funeral service for an old friend of his who passed away recently.
What a beautiful service. It was basically a church service with a message from the pastor and beautiful, inspiring stories from the family members. This man truly left a lasting impression and quite the legacy for his very apparent love of the Lord, love for his family and friends and all those who encountered him.
So, there you go! Non emergency medical transportation is not just for medical appointments. Not in my book. Events of all sorts; I’m there to meet your personal needs.
Tomorrow is back to Seattle for a client having outpatient surgery. Later in the night I am off to Sedro Woolley to take a gentleman to what was referred to me on the phone, “The Big Fat Freemason Lodge.” Well, okay then! 😁
It’s going to be a long one, but I’m up for it.

I didn’t even have half of my first cup of coffee this morning when Skagit Regional Hospital called and asked if I could do a transport—and could I be there in 10–15 minutes?

“YES!” I told the nurse.

As she was hanging up, I could hear her say, “YESSSSS!” 😁

I had just enough time to throw on my work clothes, brush my hair and teeth, and boogie out the door. 🚐💨

Made it! Ten minutes later, I was in the patient’s room. Boom! 🙌

The nurse came in to thank me and say goodbye to her patient. I knew he was being transported to a local assisted living community and placed on hospice. We arrived with plenty of time for his hospice appointment.

I love it when all the coordinating comes together with perfect timing for the patient—my client. ❤️

From the medical staff and social workers to hospice, caregivers, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities—and transportation—it truly is a juggling act. But when everyone communicates, coordinates, and works together, it makes all the difference.

Super Day at Super Bingo! 🎉

What a fun day at Super Bingo at Mira Vista Care Center in Mount Vernon! I had the pleasure of joining Donna Backman with Almost There Senior Care for a wonderful event filled with patients, staff, family members, visitors, and local professionals who serve our seniors and disabled community.

It was a great opportunity to connect with others who are dedicated to helping people live safely, comfortably, and independently—from home health and home care providers to assisted living, hospice care, and, of course, non-emergency medical transportation. 🚐💙

I always enjoy meeting new people, learning about the services they provide, and building relationships with others who share the same heart for serving our community.

A special thank you to Mira Vista Care Center for hosting such a great event and bringing everyone together. And thank you to everyone who came out and made Super Bingo such a SUPER day! 🥳

💙 It’s More Than Just a Ride 💙

Yesterday evening, I was in the middle of preparing tacos for dinner when I received a call from a local hospital emergency room.

They were having trouble finding transportation for an elderly lady who needed to get home.

I was told she was very frail, didn’t have her walker, needed a wheelchair, and would need assistance getting into her apartment.

“How soon can you be here?” they asked.

“Fifteen, twenty minutes.”

I flew out the door.

When I arrived, I could see just how much help she needed. She could barely stand, let alone walk, so I carefully assisted her into my wheelchair.

It was only a few miles to her home. But getting her safely inside was about much more than simply getting from Point A to Point B.

I wheeled her through the apartment complex, up the elevator, and into her apartment. The hallway was a little cluttered, making it impossible to get the wheelchair all the way to her bedroom.

So I retrieved her walker and helped her carefully stand. I stayed beside her as she made her way to the bedroom, where she told me she just wanted to sit down.

Before leaving, I asked:

“Is there anything else I can do for you?”

“Open the window,” she said.

“Of course. Anything else? Would you like me to help you take your shoes off?”

She hesitated, then accepted my help.

I put her purse away, organized her paperwork, cleared the clothing from her bed, and made sure she was comfortable.

Then I asked one more time:

“Anything else?”

“Well… could you help me lay down?”

“Of course.”

And I gently helped this sweet little lady get settled safely and comfortably in her bed.

That moment reminded me why I do what I do.

You see, it’s more than just a ride.

It’s about slowing down.
It’s about noticing what someone needs.
It’s about providing personal assistance when they need an extra hand.
It’s about making sure the person in your care feels safe, comfortable, respected and valued.

That’s the difference between simply providing transportation and providing personal care transportation.

Turned out to be a busy day even after an early morning cancel because the clients surgery was rescheduled.
First run was a repeat client close to base, followed by a hospital discharge from Skagit Regional to Providence Hospital Everett. He was fun to listen to about being drafted into the military and served in the Army in Vietnam. He came back and joined Local 86 Ironworkers. My oldest son is an Ironworker out of Local 86, his dad was, his grandfather, and great-grandfather were Ironworkers. I love the stories!
I ran across the Admissions Administrator when trying to figure out from very vague instructions from the hospital where my client needed to check in. The administrator overheard us and called us into his office, asked my client how the transport was 😀 (I got a good review) I laughed that he was asking the client right in front of me. He then escorted us to the correct floor and to the admissions desk himself.
I just so happened 😉 😉 to have my cards and fliers on hand, officially introduced myself and handed him my materials and told him I have attempted to contact the social workers who arrange transportation. He smiled and said he would get my information to the proper people.
Oh, the van in front of mine hahaha is the company I used to work for. Small world!
From Everett I headed back to Skagit Regional for another hospital discharge and back to Marysville to an adult family home.
More military stories, dreams and goals from this gentleman.
I never know what the day may bring.
Sometimes I have scheduled rides and then an impromptu discharge transport calls in.
Productive day! I like it that way.

Thank you Lacey Brown and Fields Senior Living for allowing me to share our services to some of the residents.
They all had great questions and so very friendly and welcoming.
I hope to accommodate and be of service to such a great community.
