Leave your hangover back in Nashville and come on down for a good ol’ private walk through the storied year of 1864 right here in Franklin, Tennessee. Saunter down the finest main street you’ll ever see, and say hello to Chip—our steadfast Civil War statue—as well as the monument honoring a proud member of the United States Colored Troops. Both stand watch over our town square, keeping our history alive.
Each tour includes four tickets to the grand Carnton Mansion and the legendary Carter House. If you’ve got a bigger crew, we can rustle up more tickets for you, no problem.
Just give me, Mr. Jack, a ring at 615.815.7151, shoot me an email at [email protected], or swing by www.nashvillecarservice.net and we’ll get you squared away.

Discovered on another Saturday outing...In 1772, Kasper Mansker—an explorer and hunter—discovered a salt lick near what is now Nashville and decided to call it “Mansker’s Lick.” A few years later, he returned with a group of pioneers and built Mansker’s Fort, where he lived with his wife Elizabeth and other settlers. I simply wish to express my gratitude and respect for those men and women who dared to pursue their dreams against all odds.

A Saturday outing led us to a hidden gem: an old train station in Culleoka, TN that’s now a restaurant. The drive was delightful, winding through Tennessee’s stunning fall colors. The route shifted from interstate to state highway, then to a county road, and finally became a narrow farm lane. Arriving there felt like discovering a treasure at the end of the rainbow. Put on your Sunday overalls and scoot your boots across those creaky wooden floors as you journey back in time.

The Athens of the South || E 1
Why Is Nashville Called "The Athens of the South"?
Nashville has long been known as "The Athens of the South," a nickname that reflects its dedication to culture, education, and the arts. One of the most striking symbols of this identity is the city's exact replica of the ancient Parthenon.
The Parthenon Replica
Constructed in 1897 for a World Exposition, Nashville's Parthenon stands as a testament to the city's commitment to celebrating classical architecture and history. For over a century, this remarkable structure has continued to impress both residents and visitors alike with its grandeur and attention to detail.

This marks the culmination of extensive research. After reviewing 250 years of documents, traveling considerable distances, and consulting relatives in New York and Ireland, the final stage depends on findings at the Chickasaw County Courthouse. All efforts have led to this point.

To date, my efforts to determine the residence of my great-great grandfather have been unsuccessful. While records indicate that he was born in Virginia, travelled by train to West Point, Mississippi, and is interred at Carnton Plantation in Franklin, Tennessee, his place of residence in Mississippi remains unknown. I have previously discussed his history in earlier episodes, but I am now focused on identifying where he established his home in Mississippi.
I have researched court records in Clay County, Lowndes County, and Oktibbeha County. Given that his son's name appears on the courthouse in Chickasaw County, I plan to dedicate several days to reviewing the records there. My first step will be to settle in at Davis Lake State Campground in Chickasaw County before commencing my research.
