It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our beloved former driver and friend, Orlando Barrera.

Those of us lucky enough to work alongside him know that no shift was ever quiet when he was around. He had a joke for every situation — and somehow, they were always exactly what you needed to hear. He carried a lightness with him that made the hard days feel shorter and the good days even better.

Orlando wasn’t just a driver — he was a presence. The kind of person who made this place feel like more than just a job.

We ask that you hold his family in your thoughts during this time. And if you find yourself smiling at a memory of him today — let yourself. That’s exactly how he’d want to be remembered.

Con el corazón afligido compartimos la noticia del fallecimiento de nuestro querido ex conductor y amigo, Orlando Barrera.

Quienes tuvimos la suerte de trabajar a su lado sabemos que ningún turno era tranquilo cuando él andaba cerca. Tenía un chiste para cada situación — y de alguna manera, siempre era justo lo que necesitabas escuchar. Llevaba consigo una alegría que hacía los días difíciles más llevaderos y los buenos días aún mejores.

Orlando no era solo un chofer — era una presencia. De esas personas que hacen que este trabajo se sienta como algo más que un trabajo.

Les pedimos que tengan presente a su familia en este momento. Y si hoy te sorprendes sonriendo al recordarlo — déjate. Así es exactamente como él hubiera querido ser recordado.

Good evening everybody!!!!

The truck driver procession to the Shrine is quickly approaching and wanted to ask for some amazing volunteers to make tamales, help the marshalling team at the yard, and the the first time we need some elves to help wrap the Christmas gifts after we collect them from the drivers. The date to make the tamales is on November 29 (day after Thanksgiving), the event is on the 30th (marshalling volunteers are needed to arrive around 1030am until around 1230) and the date for the gift wrapping will probably be December 7,2024. Look forward to seeing you guys again this year!

La Procession de Troqueros al Santuario se aproxima y como siempre busco voluntarios para hacer los tamales, ayudar dirigir los camiones en la yarda el día del evento al igual que un grupo que nos ayude a enredar los regalos de los niños que se colecten ese dia. La fecha para hacer los tamales será el 29 de Noviembre (día después de Thanksgiving), el día del evento será el 30 de Noviembre, y el grupo de voluntarios para enredar regalos será el 7 de Diciembre.

Cualquier ayuda es muy bienvenida!!!

Good Morning to the Mainland family & friends. The semi truck pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe is on November 30, 2024. We will be sending all previous attendes the registrations out by the end of this week and will open up the registration to newcomers if space is available. Please remember that this is one of the several groups that arrive at the Shrine, our group starts at 15th & Western.

Buenos días a la familia y amigos de Mainland. La peregrinación en camión al Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe es el 30 de noviembre de 2024. Enviaremos las inscripciones a todos los asistentes anteriores a finales de esta semana y abriremos la inscripción a los que no nos an acompanado en anos previos si hay espacio disponible. Por favor recuerde que este es uno de los varios grupos que llegan al Santuario, nuestro grupo comienza en la 15 y Western.

Good afternoon everyone!
It is my pleasure to announce the registration for the 2023 Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. There are other convoys that day so make sure you are aware of which one you're signing up for. The date is on December 2, 2023 and we take off from our yard at 15th & Western in Chicago. We are currently working on all the details but we want to get the registration started to get an idea of how many trucks are coming. Please make sure you register even if you're not sure you are able to attend. It's better to plan for more rather than not planning for enough. Please forward this registration to anyone that may be interested in joining. I am so happy to report that representatives from the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be joining us at the yard to give us a special blessing before we take off to the Shrine. There will also be changes to the route to prevent the split we had last year (there was some construction that we weren't aware of that caused the split). We will be working with all the aldermen of the wards we're passing through to make sure there will be no construction along the route. This year we will be picking a different route that allows for 13'6" trucks so that we don't have to split up. Once all the details are completed then we will be contacting you with all that information, we look forward to seeing you!
