The Chairman's Report 8/2024
Good morning,
I would like to start off by thanking Painter Soule, the Managing Captain and his crew for their dedication to the Lilly B and Bustins Island community. Painter is going into his fourth season as the Managing Captain and does a tremendous job.
I would also like to thank the volunteers that work all year on the boat committee. Bob Duggan, Janice Boyco, Amy White, Jeff Giles and Darlene Torres-Boone.
A special thank you to Dave Stager and Bob Canu, the former BAC Chairman, they work tirelessly in overseeing the installation thru the inspection of the new engine. They work closely with Caterpillar and Brewers Marine.
Last fall the decision was made to purchase a new engine instead of a re-built one. One of the main selling points of new over re-built was the new engine is extremely eco-friendly. Itās more efficient and we were able thru Dave Stagerās research get approved for a grant to offset some of the cost of the engine. The new engine should last for many years to come. I would also like to acknowledge Al Spalding who was the architect of the Lilly B, his design made removing and installing a new engine much easier and did not require major alterations to the structure of the Lilly B.
We maintained the same schedule from the prior year. We did modest increase to the fares to help offset the cost of the ferry service.
This year we had a contest to design the Lilly B merchandise. Three designs were chosen from the many entries. The back of the tee shirts was designed by Corrianna Wade. The back of the hoodies was designed by Stella Svolis. The hat and front of both the tee shirts and hoodies was designed by Elsie Hurn. The items are selling fast, so be sure to stop by the ferry and pick up your Lilly B swag. We will be looking for designs for next yearās merchandise, follow the Lilly B page for updates.
I would like to finish by asking Islanders to be courteous and to be on time for the ferry. Asking the ferry to wait creates a hardship for the Captain, Crew and fellow passengers.
Respectfully Submitted,
James Boone, Chairman of the Boat Committee
