A Pen for a Child Project II

A Pen for a Child Project II What is this Project about? This is a continuation of a similar project successfully carried out in 2012. Who will benefit? How much should you donate? Take note!

"A Pen for A Child II" is an informal, independent charitable project initiated by Lee Jun Jie to help raise funds in purchasing stationary items such as pencils, erasers, chalks to be give to the underprivileged students of Ong Kar Primary School. OngKar Primary is a public school located at a rural village, at the outskirt of Phnom Penh. The school is largely run by part time teachers whose full

time job is of a farmer. OngKar Primary serves the Thmey Village and its neighboring community with approximately 600 enrolled students from Grade 1 to 6. However, as OngKar Primary School receives very limited funding, they often face logistical constraints such as being unable to provide students with basic stationary items such as pencil and eraser or the chalks for the teachers to write on the blackboard. Many of the students themselves are also unable to afford these items. This project is simply a small-scale individual project to raise funds from donations by friends and family to purchase stationary items to be given to the students of OngKar Primary and children of the village. How did you get to know the beneficiary? We first got in touch with OngKar Primary and Thmey Village through our involved in a Youth Expedition Project, Project Inspiron II carried out in Year 2010. It was a continuation from Project Inspiron 2009 which was initiated by Mr Eugene Lee & Mr Li Jun Bin. Both YEP Project was carried out for a period of 14 days which a team of 22 undergraduates from NTU, NUS & NIE shared their knowledge of the English Language with both teachers and students of OngKar Primary School. Stationary items and self-created textbooks were also supplied to the school during the two projects. Even though there were plans for the YEP Project to be continued, regrettably it wasn't due to a lack of interested participants/leaders in the following years. Our idea is to have a simple fund raising from our friends and family, together with our own donation, to purchase some stationary items for the students of OngKar Primary. We do not have any goal/amount in mind. We will just gather as much donation as we can, then buy and carry as much stationary items as we can over to Thmey Village in Cambodia. There is no need for you to donate a certain amount. Just donate whichever amount you wish to. $10 is fine. $1 is fine. Even $0.10 is fine. It is really a spirit of sharing and charity. It is the act of sharing that is noble, not the amount. Any amount will be greatly appreciated by us and the beneficiaries. Even if you do not wish to donate for this cause, no worries! You can help by volunteering your help for the many YEP Projects organized by other organizations or even initiate one yourself! How can you donate? Contact Lee Jun Jie ([email protected]) via email or Facebook PM (private message me for more details). You may also SMS me if you have my numbers! (Disclaimer)

Please note that this is an individual project solely initiated, managed and executed by myself (Lee Jun Jie) and not endorsed by any organization. (Meaning I collect money - I buy the stationary items - I bring over with my luggage - I take taxi to the village - I hand over the items and take some photographs for you all)

Therefore, there is no auditing on how i use the money and there is no one to check on me. Thus, it is based on the trust you have in me to donate to this cause. So please do not donate if you are uncomfortable or have doubts about this project.
